During today's panel, creator Mike Mignola and cast members David Harbor, Sasha Lane, and Danie Dae Kim, debuted a "panel exclusive" 2-minute teaser trailer for the upcoming reboot. While Lionsgate (through Summit Entertainment) probably doesn't have plans to release this that soon, despite the trailer looking very much complete, we might get a similar trailer later on (they're releasing Robin Hood next month, so we might get it with that at earliest.)
The footage opens with some dramatic scenes narrated by Ian McShane's Proffesor Broom, before cutting to a heavily armed SWAT force outside a building of some sort (posssibly a museum). An areal vehicle up and Hellboy jumps out, almost getting shot by an off-screen police officer, causing him to shout "HEY! I'm on YOUR side!" Cue the Summit Entertainment logo, with the trailer from here on out set to Billy Idol's "Mony Mony" and very fast-paced. We get scenes establishing the BPRD as now opporating out of London disguised as a deli of some sort (as opposed to the lone private government facility in Newark, New Jersey from the Guillermo del Toro films). We get a few lines of dialogue from Daniel Dae Kim's Ben Daimio and Sasha Lane's Alice Monaghan, but one exchange that really caught my attention was Hellboy confronting Broom, saying "You made me into a weapon", to whihc Broom calmly and politely responds (in true Ian McShane fashion, i may add) "I just wanted to help you become the best. You.". It seems HB's on the outs with his adoptive father a little in this version, as earlier discussion in the panel confirms. We then cut to a montage mix of action and humorus scenes, including Hellboy jumping off a bridge to chase someone and fighting some kind of minotaur-;ike creature in a church, not to mention a really funny bit where he gets stuck in an elevator and punches the panel with his stone right hand to make it go back down. All of this is accompanied by the tagline "Saving The World Just For The Hell Of It", which was just flat GENIUS. The trailer concludes with HB facing off against Milla Jovovitch's villanous Nimue the Blood Queen before giving the audience a HUGE money shot that made the crowd go wild: Hellboy stepping out of some sort of pit weilding a firey sword in full Anung Un Rama mode like in the teaser poster. His horns are fully grown and a golden firey crown is floating above his head, not unlike the one from the short story comic "Box Full of Evil". Cue the title logo and a "April 2019" end card.
Hellboy stars David Harbour, Ian McShane, Milla Jovovich, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim, Penelope Mitchell, Sophie Okonedo, Brian Gleeson, and Alistair Petrie, and will be released April 12, 2019.
