BOX OFFICE: Stephen King's IT Takes Aim At An Opening Which Will Eclipse THE DARK TOWER

Plans for a franchise revolving around The Dark Tower have seemingly come to a halt but based on tracking data for IT, we can expect a sequel to receive the green light from Warner Bros. very soon.

The Dark Tower may have underperformed but the signs are all pointing to IT being a huge hit for Warner Bros. According to initial tracking data, the movie is currently on track to debut with around $50 million. That's a figure which would break September records and is particularly surprising considering the fact it's a horror movie and has an R-Rating. So, this is good news for that sequel!

Stephen King's novel is massive and takes place in both the past and present. Revolving around a group of children who encounter the demonic Pennywise the Clown, the tale later jumps ahead to follow those same kids as adults as they return home to stop the threat once and for all. The plan has always been to make two movies and an opening like this is sure help the follow-up receive the green light.

It's been a bad summer for the box office thanks to flops like The Dark Tower, The Emoji Movie, and Valerian so this is good news for exhibitors and may open the door to more Stephen King adaptations.

Are you guys excited for the movie? As always, be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

@KINGPEN266 - Hitmans Bodyguard had better action than I expected! The movie wasn't terribly original but was executed well enough that it ended up being a real fun movie.

It would be great to get a Stephen King Cinematic universe starting with this, maybe make a few connections between other movies, like maybe in 10 years they could try Dark Tower again this time actually adapting the books and they can use the guy who is playing pennywise to play the Crimson King, don't say he is pennywise, but leave it open. If they are done well I would be fine with remakes of The Shinning and Carrie, although the Carrie remake was pretty good, if they want they can start there

@EvilCipher - Agreed. The hobbling scene is more disturbing in the movie than the book. The book is a little too in your face about it. It would be hard to do a better version of that story in film.

@dracula - he should just pull a j/k about that DT shitshow and test the waters with a solid translation to film version of The Talisman and The Black House.

I don't usually watch horror movies in theaters, but one of my friends really wants to see this.
