While speaking to TV Guide about the upcoming 5th season of Burn Notice fan favorite actor Bruce Campbell also spoke a little about the planned remake of Sam Raimi's classic Evil Dead. As we already know from the various articles we have already [posted, feedback has been..mixed. Many feel that a direct remake is a bad idea and if they have to do it then they really should have Ash make an appearance. Here Campbell explains the decision to leave him out..

"We are going to remake it. The first one. And people are a little iffy about that [but] we wanted to remake a movie with better effects and we're better at telling stories now... There's no 'Ash' character and that pisses people off [but] we didn't want to have the direct comparison. I wouldn't want to put an actor in that position."

Campbell also reveals that him making a cameo appearance in the movie is not a certainty, saying only "maybe". So have feelings changed on this at all? Does Raimi's involvement as Producer mean this one has a chance of working? Sound off below.

I am NOT crazy about this remake, dont have any delusions to the contrary. That said, I WILL give this film a chance, but only if Raimi gives us that Evil Dead IV somewhere down the road, preferably the one where he goes after Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees.

The original film didn't NEED fancy effects to be a great movie. People forget that the original Evil Dead was made with a very low budget- I think it was like 400 or 500 thousand, something like that. Imagination and clever cinematography gave us a far better film than state-of-the-art CGI and gore ever could. I'd be all for this film if it were a sequel. As a remake, it's a total waste of f*cking time and money. This reminds me of the unnecessary remake of Dawn of the Dead. Sorry, but I'll pass on this one.

Ror: If you've never seen Burn Notice, try to track down the DVD's if you can. You'll be glad you did. It's a very entertaining show, with intelligent writing, good acting, and a unique sense of humor. For my money, it's one of the best series on American TV today. I don't see any episodes, but there are plenty of clips of it on YouTube that could give you a good feel for what they're doing. Hope you like it!

I gotta say, and I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I have to give it to Campbell for being ballsy enough to make changes to the remake. Plus he know's he is the ONLY Ash!!

Never enough news about The Chin! If the 'remake' tries to outdo the tree-rape scene in the original,no way in heck this gets a PG-13 rating...

Here's a tip...if it's not broke, don't fix it! THe first one is a classic for many reasons and donesn't need to be updated!

Didn't they already remake Evil Dead? It was called Evil Dead 2.
The thing about Evil Dead that made it iconically stand out from all those other crappy B movies was the strong lead character of Ash and Campbell's performance of him.

What are they going to remake? Bunch of stupid kids break into a cabin in the woods, find the necronomicon, release the monsters and they all die?
The movie is more about the psychosis and PTSD the protagonist goes through than anything else. If you cut that, it's not Evil Dead. If you keep it and it's not "Ash", I expect two things would happen; either the character is exactly like Ash, in which it already fails with the fans, or the character is totally different, like female or something else disappointingly obvious, and then the movie again fails because it will always be under the shadow of the first. "Did you see Evil Dead?" "The one with the chick Ash?"

I have no interest if Bruce is not directly involved. He was the core of the Evil Dead films. This remake is a huge mistake. It's not what people have been asking for since Army of Darkness came out.

Bruce Campbell basically said no one is better than he is, and that's why we love him!

I recently played Ash in Evil Dead the Musical, and to me that character is legendary. Without Ash in this film, it gives no reason to it's name.

I respect his decision of not letting someone else portray his character. But what the hell are they thinking? This should be another film. Or another chapter of the Evil Dead series where new batch of teenagers stumbles upon the Book of the Dead. More of a spin off thing. Agree?

NO ASH, NO PEACE!!! Seriously, though, I don't blame them. No actor would survive a comparison with the "chin of legend".
