Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is taking a break from releasing DC Animated Universe adventures to adapt George A. Romero's 1968 horror classic Night of the Living Dead. Titled Night of the Animated Dead, this small screen take on the movie is set to be released digitally on September 21, 2021, and on Blu-Ray Combo Pack & DVD on October 5, 2021.
"Night of the Animated Dead tells the story of siblings Babara and Johnny who are visiting their father’s grave in a remote cemetery in Pennsylvania when they are unexpectedly attacked by zombies," reads the synopsis. "Barbara flees and finds herself in an abandoned farmhouse alongside motorist Ben and four local survivors hiding in the cellar. They must work together and fight to stay alive against the oncoming horde of zombies while also confronting their own fears and prejudices."
The movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Dule Hill, Katharine Isabelle, James Roday Rodriguez, Katee Sackhoff, Will Sasso, Jimmi Simpson, and Nancy Travis.
To Your Last Death's Jason Axinn directors Night of the Animated Dead, and if this trailer (shared exclusively by IGN) is any indication, we're in for a fun ride. Zombies aren't quite the hot commodity they once were since The Walking Dead's buzz has died down, but between this and Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead anime prequel on Netflix, zombies are making an impact in animation.
