Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is taking a break from releasing DC Animated Universe adventures to adapt George A. Romero's 1968 horror classic Night of the Living Dead. Titled Night of the Animated Dead, this small screen take on the movie is set to be released digitally on September 21, 2021, and on Blu-Ray Combo Pack & DVD on October 5, 2021.

"Night of the Animated Dead tells the story of siblings Babara and Johnny who are visiting their father’s grave in a remote cemetery in Pennsylvania when they are unexpectedly attacked by zombies," reads the synopsis. "Barbara flees and finds herself in an abandoned farmhouse alongside motorist Ben and four local survivors hiding in the cellar. They must work together and fight to stay alive against the oncoming horde of zombies while also confronting their own fears and prejudices."

The movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Dule Hill, Katharine Isabelle, James Roday Rodriguez, Katee Sackhoff, Will Sasso, Jimmi Simpson, and Nancy Travis.

To Your Last Death's Jason Axinn directors Night of the Animated Dead, and if this trailer (shared exclusively by IGN) is any indication, we're in for a fun ride. Zombies aren't quite the hot commodity they once were since The Walking Dead's buzz has died down, but between this and Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead anime prequel on Netflix, zombies are making an impact in animation.

Would have been nice if the animation of the human-characters had been done in the same subtle and nuanced style of the backgrounds... *SIGH*... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What is the point of this? the characters just look weird.

Romero had more than a few story treatment lying around, some of which are being developed into movies.

Twilight Of The Dead : A return to the original continuity, after Diary rebooted it. It was suppose to be his final zombie movie. (Have Tom Savini direct)

Can't remember the titled of the other one in the works, but if I remember correctly it had a Gladiator type story.

At one point he also wanted to do a zombie musical.

If something is going to be of Romero's is going to be remade in animation, why not remake Day Of The Dead, based on the original script, before they cut half the budget

What the hell was that?

Was this done by the grandson of the studio or something? How is this an actual release?

Not really sold in the animation yet, but I like most of WB Animation's stuff so I'll give it a chance (eventually)

All of my interest in this comes from the fact that the two leads of Psych are in the voice cast cuz that animation is off putting.

This movie has to hold some record as the movie with the most remakes ever.

It's great to see the studio doing the animated classic Doctor Who stories getting some more work! 😂

This cartoon is one of the worst things I ever seen. The art is crap, the story is not new and the its pointless. I can just watch the original movie. Never did I watch the flick and go "you know this would be better if someone drew it as a crappy cartoon with really bad artwork and blist voices. This remake is almost as bad as the fright night remake. And I dont mean the colin Farrel one I mean the one they called Fright Night 2 but was just part one with a female vamp.
