I have to admit that I didn't have high expectations for this movie walking in, but what I soon learned was that this film was going to be one of the funniest movies of the year since Hot Tub Time Machine. Just from the second scene alone, I was hysterical laughing at how ridiculous the film was presented, and it doesn't stop. The movie is consistently implausible to the point of out doing "2012" in terms of unintentional self satire.
Even if you [for some inexplicable reason] absolutely love the Resident Evil series in all forms, if you do not go into this film ready to laugh, you will leave extremely angry and out of $16-20. So I decided to enjoy this movie for everything it was worth.
All of "____ Movie" parody films had it wrong (scary, epic, etc). If you want to make a parody film, all you have to do is hire the most pretentious, oblivious director and let him make the best film he can. Don't get me wrong, I am not defending this film at all. this movie sets one of the greatest imbalances for the Movie/Budget ratio. For as much money as this movie had absolutely nothing to offer in the way of spectacle. The 3D was impressive, made you feel like you were in the same room as the actors, very subtle, tasteful, I wish I could say the same for the rest of the movie. I honestly don't care to be in the same room as some one who does so many unnecessary back and front flips and makes so many terrible one liners.
Definitely make it a point to watch this movie at some point for the kicks and giggles. Just don't feel compelled to dish out $16-20 to do it. Not worth it in a hundred years (unless the future economy is worse, and that's worth like 2 bucks, then do it). This movie would've been amazing 30 years ago, but it's 2010 and even Scott Pilgrim had enjoyable action. I honestly don't know how people good pour so much money into something so campy and distasteful. terrible action flick, great comedy. I give Resident Evil: Afterlife .5/5 (that's ".5", not "5", and that is my honest review)
