RUMOR: Two Actresses Audition for the EVIL DEAD Remake ... Possibly the Lead Role

Major plot details have surfaced for Fede Alvarez's remake of the Evil Dead, but this is the first casting rumor that I've come across so far.

To remake Sam Raimi's Evil Dead is one thing, to do without Bruce Campbell as Ash, or not even having the character of Ash is a scary concept. This remake will focus on a female this time around, one that is suffering with a drug addiction, and her brother along with friends take the troubled girl to a secluded cabin. There in the cabin one of the friends reads from the Book of the Dead and releases a demon.

According to the website Destroy the Brain two actresses have auditioned for roles in the film. There is no word if they both auditioned for the drug addicted sister, Mia, or another role. Although they both could've auditioned for separate parts.

EVIL DEAD

Thanks to our inside sources, Destroy the Brain can confirm that actress Jurnee Smollett (Friday Night Lights, The Great Debaters) and actress Gillian Jacobs (Community, The Box, Choke) have both auditioned for roles in the remake.

Given that both Friday Night Lights and Community have such a strong teen and young adult following, I can’t say I’m surprised that these two could land roles in the highly anticipated horror film. Gillian in particular has made quite a name for herself with Community. I could easily see her settling into the lead of the drug-addicted Mia. We will have to see what happens since auditions are still being conducted. It is rumored that the filming will start in March 2012 for a Spring 2013 release. - destroythebrain.com
