RUMOR: Two Actresses Audition for the EVIL DEAD Remake ... Possibly the Lead Role

Major plot details have surfaced for Fede Alvarez's remake of the Evil Dead, but this is the first casting rumor that I've come across so far.

To remake Sam Raimi's Evil Dead is one thing, to do without Bruce Campbell as Ash, or not even having the character of Ash is a scary concept. This remake will focus on a female this time around, one that is suffering with a drug addiction, and her brother along with friends take the troubled girl to a secluded cabin. There in the cabin one of the friends reads from the Book of the Dead and releases a demon.

According to the website Destroy the Brain two actresses have auditioned for roles in the film. There is no word if they both auditioned for the drug addicted sister, Mia, or another role. Although they both could've auditioned for separate parts.

EVIL DEAD

Thanks to our inside sources, Destroy the Brain can confirm that actress Jurnee Smollett (Friday Night Lights, The Great Debaters) and actress Gillian Jacobs (Community, The Box, Choke) have both auditioned for roles in the remake.

Given that both Friday Night Lights and Community have such a strong teen and young adult following, I can’t say I’m surprised that these two could land roles in the highly anticipated horror film. Gillian in particular has made quite a name for herself with Community. I could easily see her settling into the lead of the drug-addicted Mia. We will have to see what happens since auditions are still being conducted. It is rumored that the filming will start in March 2012 for a Spring 2013 release. - destroythebrain.com

Gillian Jacobs is hilarious on Community. I would probably watch this blasphemy if she was in it.

Who gives a sh!t?

Crap writer, and possibly the worst movie franchise to reboot. They're already perfect.

The only thing I have to say about this movie is, why? The Evil dead series is a cult classic that most people have not heard of. It's not like this is a billion dollar franchise and would make sense to reboot from a financial perspective. It just seems like they are rushing a cheap reboot in hope to turn a quick buck off those who have heard of and love the Evil Dead movies. Thanks, but not thanks.

I don't want this remake to happen as much as the next guy, but its gonna happen whether we like it or not. But I can say it would be interesting to see Gillian Jacobs in this, I love her as Britta on Community, so I wouldn't seeing her be serious. Jurnee Smollett is a pretty good actress, so she isn't a bad candidate either.

Most times when I see attractive mainstream actresses like the great and mighty @TeaBag just posted, I always hope they get a roll in the Walking Dead or Zombieland2 as a Walker/Zombie so we have the potential to see some boobs. Community is Hillarious btw and Journee can act her ass off. Nonetheless. Zombieboobs!

Gillian all the way can't wait for this to get done, while I love the original I want to see what Raimi and Campbell as producers do with the story and the scare factor
