The general rule of thumb in any form of art is if one product is lackluster, than the one following it should at least be a little better. Thankfully Scream 4 improved because if not, we'd be talking about the good ole days of Scream & Scream 2. After taking a ten year break, the filmmakers gave themselves a whole new decade of different horror films to satirize. Specifically reboots & remakes.

Grabbing the writer of the first two Screams and dumping the writer of Scream 3 (although he came on to do slight rewrites), Scream 4 (or Scre4m) was poised to be much better than its predecessor. And boy it was; Scream 4 successfully spoofed horror movie reboots and remakes, while delivering fans with more humor and arguably the best cast in the series.
