In a recent chat with USA Today, director Alex Kurtzman revealed how he came to fall in love with Universal's classic Monsters Universe as a kid because of “the deep humanity I felt like these monsters were actually reflecting, they say something about who we are” and he hopes to bring this same element to his upcoming reboot of The Mummy.
Plot details have remained under wraps, but what we do know is that Tom Cruise's character "Nick Morton" will be the one to accidentally unearth the ancient Mummy, played by Sofia Boutella, and will then find himself caught right smack dab in the center of an immortal conflict that started over 5,000 years ago. He'll be aided in his quest by Russell Crowe's Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde and the mysterious organization known as Prodigium, who will serve as his gateway into the "much larger world of Gods and Monsters he wasn't aware of."
The upcoming film and the Mummy herself will draw inspiration from Boris Karloff's 1932 classic, but with notable upgrades, including some powerful abilities, which Kurtzman teases are “organized around the ideas of romance and entrancement, She has control over and power to get into your mind, and creepy crawlies tend to like her when she’s around.”
