Don Cheadle Says IRON MAN 3, "Could Be The Last One"

Despite saying that the door is open for future instalments, Don Cheadle (Iron Patriot) reveals that the main aim with Iron Man 3 was to get this one right in order for it to possibly be "the last one". He also details a humorous deleted scene which addressed his absence in The Avengers.

In an interview with Empire Online, Don Cheadle was asked whether or not there are plans for another Iron Man movie. The actor recently hinted that he may make an appearance in both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Avengers 2, but Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow's contracts ended with Iron Man 3. "The door is always left open in these kinds of movies especially when they do as well as they have done,""I know there was talk of making sure we did this one right, and if it worked it could be the last one. There's room for more to be done with these characters. We're getting to a sweet spot with Tony and Rhodey, anyway. Robert's really busy, he's just had a kid, and if he were to say I need a break for a second, I would not blame him." As for where exactly Rhodey was during the events of Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble, Cheadle is just as in the dark about that as we are (despite a comic book prequel unconvincingly attempting to answer it). "That's a really good question, isn't it? I have no idea. It's a question that got into the movie. A kid asks Robert, how do you get to be an Avenger? I said, kid, that's the $25,000 question." That scene has since been cut, but here's hoping it makes it onto the Blu-ray! Read my review of Iron Man 3 by clicking HERE.

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

****SPOILER****
I've been saying it for MONTHS!
They sucked up to the Chinese because they were bankrolling the whole thing. So they couldnt have the Mandarin being a bad arse villian, because hes Asian, and that might "Upset" some Asians. So they made him an English Actor douchebag instead, and a half retarded one at that!! What a JOKE!!

How is this PresentFuture guy still active?

As for the Avengers referrence, why is it always the most badass scenes and dialogue that get cut? I better see War Machine in A2

MrYurMomm@ Yeah we all may be down for a War Machine spin off but you know casual movie goers aren't gonna be interested if Stark isn't involved somehow.

It's gonna be a high budget One Shot if anything

They should actually just make a really good War Machine one shot to explain his absence in Avengers...I'd be happy with that

@ presentfuture- I'm still gonna see the moviee sorry bud, but I think u do make some valid points. Which I'm glad Marvel has made, cus I'm tired of fans bashing DC all the time

I just wish they would recast War Machine. Find a young up and coming African American actor. He just doesn't fit the role for me. I love Don Cheadle as an actor, but just don't like him as War Machine. So until they do that, just keep him away from the Avengers.

They could start to phase out Iron Man towards the end of Avengers 2. Have RDJ make a short appearance in Avengers 3 and maybe suit up for one last time. That way RDJ can do other things and give limited time to MCU.

Get rid of Hawkeye and Widow in Avengers 2. Widow can show up again in Cap 3. So you replace IM, Widow and Hawkeye with Vision, Scarlett Witch or Ms Marvel, Ant-Man and Wasp. So we net one extra character. That's my Phase 2 & 3 plan.

@kevberg- Its true, and its total horsesh*t. They took Ironmans main Enemy, one of the most bad-arse villians in comics, and dumbed him down to avoid pissing off the Chinese..

Seriously doubt it. Out of Phase 1, IM is probably the most recognized/most popular and from what it sounds like he is going to be starting off phase 2 with a bang. I think he is just too associated now with the Marvel movies for them to not want to continue making more. There is plenty of other characters they COULD replace him with but with the job that RDJ has done bringing Stark to screen I just think Feige and Co. know that pulling the plug on IM movies would be a bad idea. I love IM, so if they do, I will not be happy camper.

@PresentFuture - Actually man, Marvels Cinematic portrayal of Tony Stark is waaaayy off from the comic character.

Stark in the comics is [frick]ing dry (Not literally heh) and quite boring.

Stark in the films is...well RDJ, and I think people will agree an improvement over comic Tony Stark. So you're 7 for 7.

Good. Like i've been saying, Downey should get off MCU for now and come back for the Avengers sequels only. A little cameo here and there is welcome too. People are getting tired of Stark's act so it would be very wise of Downey to dial it down and make other movies.
