Joe Quesada Says IM2's War Machine "Kicks Ass" & Thor will be "Epic"

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada talks about the sequel.

Here's a bit of the interview from MTV:

"I've actually seen a rough cut of the movie, and it's going to be good," Quesada told MTV News...

"[Don] Cheadle is one of the greatest living American actors, what do you expect?" said Quesada of the actor playing War Machine's alter ego, James "Rhodey" Rhodes, in the blockbuster sequel. "I think fans are going to love it — especially fans of War Machine — and he does kick some major ass."
According to Quesada, African-American characters like War Machine have always had a special place in his heart — though his favorite of the bunch has yet to make his big-screen debut...

Then Quesada offered up some thoughts on how the upcoming, Kenneth Branagh-directed film will be a very different experience than the typical comic book movie.

"I've sat through the story meetings and sat with Branagh," said Quesada. "The character is in tremendous hands. Branagh understand the mythology and what he doesn't understand, he's asking questions about — in particular, the comic book mythology. He's really immersed himself in it. It's going to be pretty epic, and regardless of what you think it's going to be, it's going to surprise people," he added. "It's an interesting piece for a superhero movie. It's going to change the conventions of the superhero movie."

Thanks to MTV for the interview.

Ozy:I cannot wait for this film!

pretty much what I would expect. Very good.

I can't help but wonder what was meant by "change the conventions"..

Does he mean change the conventions set by fatuous nonsense like Dick Tracy and X3 or conventions of worthy works like Iron Man

Not really news, but it got the job done. And by job, I mean getting me super excited so my heart races and I gaze off into the sunset daydreaming of and longing for more Marvel crossover movies. *sigh* :)

Darth - by 'changing the conventions', I'm thinking of the fantasy aspect of it. Is it a fantasy movie? Is it a superhero movie? It's both!

I also imagine there won't be an 'origin' as such - straight into Thor being Thor and doing his thing with the film ending with his superhero origin (i.e. being banished to Midgard to learn humility) - rather than the origin coming at the beginning and the character learning about his power by the end, it'll flip that - learning about the dangers and responsibilities of his powers first before his 'origin' as a hero on Earth. so his character arc would be from arrogant god exulting in his own power to humble hero dedicated to protecting the weak...

Maybe. :)

Great news on Thor. I really like Branagh. He reminds me of the theater geek who's so determined to get his work done right that he dwells into the source material like a freak. I can only pray that the movie will be as big as IM.
