RDJ on Iron Man 2 Shoot: "I Wouldn't Say We Had Fun"

Robert Downey, Jr. calls Sherlock Holmes "a life-changing experience," but says that Iron Man 2 wasn't all fun and games.

Not many 44-year-old actors are headlining action movies, let alone portraying iconic characters like super-sleuth Sherlock Holmes or the super-heroic Iron Man. Downey, Jr. is undoubtably at the top of his game right now, and he has no intention of slowing down:

"If the material is still good and you still like to work with the people - why not? Sherlock Holmes was a life-changing experience. That's due to the extensive research we did and because I could actually realise such a big project. I would still play characters like Sherlock in the future. Although, I will probably have another child and an alcohol free vineyard by then."

And, while Downey, Jr. has spoken many times about how cool it is to play a superhero at his age, he admitted that the actual process of shooting the film in the heavy Iron Man armor does have its drawbacks:

"Well, the suit was a bit lighter, but not light enough for my liking. I had more self-confidence shooting the second film, but I wouldn't say we had fun. We wanted to take more time. We extended the cast and our horizon and made the story more complex and subtle, although it's still easy to follow. We really looked into the storyline thoroughly to make it as good as possible."

Sherlock Holmes is still in select theaters. Iron Man 2 opens May 7th!

Sounds like he's trying to bail from the Iron Man Franchise before the Big one to me...THE AVENGERS.

@tea: Thanks, mate!

@TheGlove: I don't think that's what he's saying at all. He's personally invested in Iron Man and said several times that he's in it for the long haul. Just a few months back he said that he could just flip-flop between playing Sherlock Holmes and Tony Stark for the rest of his career and he would be happy.

Eh? I thought he said just recently that he was ready to give up films altogether! [frick]ing hollywood stars!
anyway starting to gripe about the suit being uncomfortable is just the begining, thats what happened to Peter Weller in the Robocop franchise and he didnt return after a second film. Come to think about it,they had the same problem with Micheal Keaton in the first Batman franchise, all these stars do is whine!whine!,whine!
plus Downey has already gone on record as saying he really doe not like the idea of "The Avengers" film, of course he doesn't all those massive Hollywood ego's in one room! What a nightmare.

I wonder if there's going to be an Iron Man 3 in 2012 before The Avengers? It would be a great way to set up characters like Ant-Man/Giant Man and Wasp! For now though, roll on April 30th! :D

seriously i swear to god if one more person keeps bitching to have the lame-ass AntMan and Wasp in the avenger im just not going to see the movie at all. stop whining that they're the original Avengers and founders...who gives a rats ass? they suck. plain and simple. antman is a retart that has severe confidence complex and beats his wife then has multiple personalities? da fuk is that about? keep him as far away from being a main character as possible. i dont care if he connects with "regular people" cause he isnt really powerful. he shrinks and controls ants....i would just bust out a magnifying glass and burn his ass and his ants. lamest hero ever! if you want him that bad in the movie than write it and produce it and direct it yourself. Marvel has already spoken that they dont need him. he's not essential to the series in the Movie Universe. just be happy if he gets squeezed in for a cameo.

Extremis armour looks light, maybe he'll suit up for Avengers or 3 which ever comes first.

I'd bitch about comfort, most actors who do wire work bitch about comfort as do actors who have to wear prosthetics. It's no big deal.

I love the fact that RDJ is an older actor, too many movies these days use actors that look way too young.

I imagine it probably isnt much fun. All that green screen work and being stuck in a clunky suit for hours on end.

@ teabag you should keep in mind if you have reason to complain!! I don't complain about my life because 1/3 of the entire world population are in much lesser position than I am. some people are starving to death and other people ly under buildings after an earth-quake! than you have reason to complain!!!!!!!!!!!
and that has NOTHING to do what I feal about that he is earning a lot of money!!

The guy f.cked up several times in his life and still got new changes!! and still complaining about a little bit of hard work, which a lot of us do every day throughout their entire lives!!!!!!!!!

and you're right! for that kind of wining-mentality I have no understanding at all!
He should go to ophrah and start sobbing over there!!

I don't give a shit if he or any other makes 1, 10, 100 million or a billion dollars a second!! but stop complaining if you are so much more fortunate than others! It's insulting to all people who, for example, lost their houses due to the recession!! not even spoken about all the others!!!!!!!!

and that internet-ability is a WEAK WEAK comparison!!

and hey..... I'm not attacking you!!!! but I only think that somebody who's nose is bleeding shouldn't complain so much in the hospital, if the rest of the patients have broken limbs or fighting for their life!!

he should be a little bit more of a man, you know.... like all the superheroes we admire!! or brave soldiers who fight all over the world for their and other's safety!!

i just reread the statements he made after reading all of the above comments...

where exactly does he "complain"? the closest he comes is saying that the suit wasn't quite light enough for his "liking." oooo...strong words. certainly gets MY blood boiling, that's for sure.

and hard life...... begging for food and homeless.... that's a hard life!!
but I agree some things can be demanding...... but than again..... after all the money he has..... he has one big advantage to people who don't have one......A CHOICE!!!!

I think RDJ did an awesome job of hiding how uncomfortable the suit was in the first movie. It looked so natural and comfortable, I had no idea it was awkward.
