Thankfully, the folks at MTV Splash Page! often ask the stars the types of questions that comic book fans like to debate. While out promoting his latest film, the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes, actor Robert Downey, Jr. was asked which of his on-screen personas would win in a fight, Tony Stark or Sherlock Holmes, and he said:













"Out of the suit, I think Sherlock would tear Tony up. But then it depends - [Tony] might have a little piece of safety tech on him."

In a mano e mano no tech fight Sherlock would smear
Tony's butt up and down the cobblebricks!

People back in Sherlock's time were in much better
tough-shape than we coddled ppl of this high-tech
modern world, on top of that Sherlock is a highly trained
martial artist and fisty-cuffs fighter for
his profession as a Private Eye and Special Agent!

Tony would only win if he could cheat with high-tech.

@DDD: The only thing that I disagree with about your statement is that everyone back in those days was in "much better" shape than modern man. They had much shorter life expectancies back then and they were much smaller. As a writer, I am one of those "high-tech" people you refer to, but I weigh 200 lbs. and can bench press about 250.

I get what you were probably getting at though, in that more of the population of his time probably had manual labor jobs that kept them fit, compared to the number of us today who work in offices, etc., but you also have to take into account how "sickly" many of them were, as well, particularly in London, which had terribly polluted air and water.

Slightly off-topic, but...

Going back even further, the difference is very evident. Have you ever seen an actual suit of armor from the Middle Ages? Those dudes were only 5 feet tall, with super atrophied leg muscles from never having to walk anywhere.

Mmm. Well, Im not certain, but isn't this movie version of Holmes a lot more formidable than the literary one? ..if its back to basics then I think Stark would take him, maybe not these movie versions though...

but then after Tony gets some combat and hand to hand training from Cap then he kick Sherlock Holmes up and down Bakers Street

Sherlock is trained as a martial artist and a boxer, as well as a crazy good stick fighter, even before this new movie, so I believe he would take Stark outside of the suit. He's been known even in the literary version to whoop some a$$ lol.

Id be more worried about two Robert Downey Jrs meeting in one place than who would win. The awesomeness of the two of them together would cause everything in the immediate vicinity to explode. It happened once before, Chuck Norris went back in time and met himself and that event became known as the Big Bang. True story (sorta, lol)

Hmm..interesting..if Tony can take a bit of a beating then he'd probably outlast Holmes in a fight..cos..if I'm right the RT powers his heart right..?..maybe giving him greater cardio endurance in a fight...blah blah blah??

Tony. The facial hair is the deciding factor. He studied under Chuck Norris for years to perfect it. Besides they have about the same build.... mainly because they are the same person.... but, I have no idea were this is going. So ya, my money is on Rambo.
