IRON MAN 3 Concept Art Reveals A Closer Look At Tony Stark's Mark 40 "Shotgun" Armor

Marvel Studios concept artist Phil Saunders has shared some of his work from Iron Man 3, revealing a closer look at Tony Stark's Mark XL "Shotgun" armour, a suit created for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During Iron Man's time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony Stark donned a lot of unique armours. By the time Iron Man 3 rolled around in 2013, the hero had an entire Iron Legion which he ultimately pitted against Aldrich Killian and his Extremis-enhanced army of soldiers.

Now, thanks to Marvel Studios concept artist Phil Saunders, we have a closer look at one of them.

The Mark 40/XL armour was created specifically for the MCU, and nicknamed the "Shotgun" suit. It was a beast of an armour, but one which received only a few fleeting glimpses of screentime.

As Saunders explains, "this suit was designed for extreme speed. I worked it out so arms and legs would lock together to the torso to form a rigid fuselage, but sadly that functionality was never featured in the movie. It made for one of my favorite Hot Toys, though!"

Take a look through the new artwork released by Saunders in the Instagram posts below:

One of my favorite amours from the movies! I do wish that they gave tony different Iron Man color schemes; Dont get me wrong, I love the gold-red combo but I would have loved to see him don the black gold armor, wouldve been perfect for Infinity War!

Just rewatched Iron Man 3 the other night... still really enjoyed it. The final battle could have been improved on, but the film really works for me.

@dragon316 - he only says he's the mandarin... i always took that as an ego thing and understood it right away in the movie... he is a guy with a bruised ego and a chip on his shoulder from when tony blew him off decades ago... he latched on to the lore of the mandarin and gave it a face... he does not realize there is a real mandarin... but Trevor does now.

@dragon316 - Eh... it didn’t do much for me either way. I’m glad that we’re getting a different take in Shang Chi. I did enjoy Trevor Slattery though.
