Ever since her casting was announced last year, many have been wondering who exactly Stephanie Szostak is playing in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3. The majority of speculation suggested that she could be Janet Van Dyne/The Wasp. However, it appears that we have official confirmation on her role in the anticipated threequel. ComicBook.com says that they can confirm that Szostak is playing Ellen Brandt, a member of AIM (which features in some capacity in the film) who was involved with a super soldier serum project. A reader for the site then tipped to the Iron Man 3 production notes (a portion of which you can see below) on the official website, which list Szostack as 'Brandt'. Additionally, Ellen Brandt is known in the comics for being married to Ted Sallis, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who eventually becomes Man-Thing. What do you think of this news?

Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau and Sir Ben Kingsley. The film is set to hit theaters May 3rd.

@levitikuz....AIM is in the movie. She's an AIM scientist. No brainer.
Most logical place for Wasp's introduction is Ant-Man anyways.

She is not Janet.

@BallisticWhale, she's Ellen Brandt, not Betty Brant. it says so in the damn article.

@LEVITIKUZ: Who cares about those bullcrap articles? official production notes say she works for AIM, which is IN the movie. You have NOTHING to base your opinion on that its Janet, besides her having short goddamn hair.

Also, Janet sucks pretty much always, so who cares.

Brandt working for AIM can still be a teaser for the Antman film, which could have AIM stuff going on too.

@BallisticWhale:

Oh, Jesus Christ. It's BranDt not Brant. In the comics, Ellen BranDt is an A.I.M. member so works for this movie. Why you continue to say that she's Betty Brant? This is stupid. She's Ellen BRANDT.

I love that the MCU can pull from all corners of the world. Who would have guessed Man-Thing's wife was gonna be in IM3?!?! outrageous haha.

And yet, with her work on teh super soldier serum & connection to AIM, it all makes sense. She can help Killian weaponize Extremis. nicely played.

@LEVITIKUZ yeah it's more likely she's just playing this Ellen Brandt character. AIM is supposed to be quite a big part of the movie, so having her play an AIM scientist makes sense. Plus, why would they even introduce Janet in an Iron Man movie? What role would she play? Would she just turn up and say "Hey Tony, I'm Janet Van Dyne, see you in Avengers 2!" and then leave?

Plus, apparently Ant Man is set to be a period piece where Hank Pym is Ant Man in like the '80s or something, and Scott Lang is the modern day Ant Man, so Janet would appear in the '80s setting as well, meaning she'd be about 50 in Iron Man 3, assuming she's about 20 in the Ant Man movie.

@BallisticWhale: the opening day when it will be confirmed she is Ellen Brandt (because it's Betty Brant, not Brandt...-.-"), i want you to apologize with all the community. Because it have no sense. Why Betty Brant have to transform into a superhuman (if you look at the trailer, Stephanie Szostak is transformed into a superhuman by A.I.M.. We can see her with Aldriach Killian and others soldiers) in a glimpse.

you're setting yourself up for major disappointment, Levitikuz. it's cool though, i'll have a "hate to say i told you so" waiting for you!!!

Also Ballisticwhale, why does it make more sense for Betty Brant (an E list Spiderman character) to be around, over an AIM operative with ties to super soldier research??

-she works for AIM
-she tries to manipulate Stark
-she uses her serum research with the Extremis virus from Killian to weaponise it. Eventually Killian will use it on himself to fight Iron Man.

It's pretty much self-explanatory.

@LEVI (didn't see your most recent comment) the Sam Jackson thing was completely different. He was never announced as even appearing in the movie, let alone as playing Nick Fury. Marvel have already announced this actress AND her role.
Similarly, the reason the characters in Nolan's movies were kept secret was because they were being played by very well known actors. Liam Neeson, JGL and Marion Cottillard were already big names when their casting was announced, so in order to preserve the secrecy of their characters, they were given different names (plus those names all factor into plot twists).

Stephanie Szostak's not exactly a house-hold name, at least like those other actors, is she? So why would they announce her casting if she was playing Janet? Surely they'd just keep her involvement in the film a secret, especially if she was playing a major secret character in a cameo? In this case, I'm 99% sure that she's not playing Janet. I wasn't convinced anyway, and to be honest I forgot she was in the movie (and I forgot about AIM), and now it's becoming much less likely. You never know with these studios - maybe you're right, maybe she is playing Janet and Marvel are [frick]ing with us. But if you are right, it's because of a lucky guess, because all the evidence (and there's a lot more in this case than usual) suggests she's not playing Janet.

She's ELLEN BRANDT! DAMN! AN A.I.M. MEMBER! Not Betty Brant (not Brandt).

In the trailer she's in the lab turning into a supersoldier. Why Betty Brant, a [frick]er secretary, have to works for Aldrich Killian, A.I.M. and turned into a damn super Extremis soldier? That's a no-sense!

She is this girl from comics:

@LEVI yeah but Nick Fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye all had roles in those films, however small they were. Nick Fury appears in order to recruit Iron Man into the Avengers at the end of Iron Man 1. Black Widow appears in Iron Man 2 as Tony's assistant/body guard, who is also spying on him for Fury, and then goes on to help him in the finale. Hawkeye is pretty much a named extra in Thor, and appears because Coulson needs someone to be prepared to take down Thor if he breaks into the SHIELD base.

Iron Man 3 looks like it'll already be filled with stuff. What role would Janet play? Outside of being The Wasp, she does very little as a character, especially before becoming a superhero. You can be certain she won't appear as Wasp in the movie, so what else could she do? Maybe she's a SHIELD agent working undercover at AIM, but even that seems a bit of a stretch, because it'd be pretty irrelevant to the story of Iron Man 3, especially as SHIELD are supposed to have pretty much no role in the movie.
