Why Iron Man 3 will suck without Jon Favreau.

Why Iron Man 3 will suck without Jon Favreau.

Is there any hope for the franchise without him?

One of the least pleasing articles that has come across comic book movies lately is the news that director Jon Favreau will not be directing Iron Man 3. What is Marvel thinking? In 2008, we saw what basically redefined Comic Book movies as we know it and it was Called Iron Man. The ending left people looking for more and it is truly what we wanted. More MOre MORe MORE!! In 2010, we were given the simply titled Iron Man 2, which gave Iron Man his sidekick War Machine, which I admit seemed a little too soon for the franchise. But without a doubt both movies are great films if you look past some of the flaws of Iron Man 2. But Marvel, Favs directed one really great film and one really good film for you, and now you're dumping him to almost completely bring a new artist in to pretty much revamp the series. The only hope I have for Iron Man 3 is that it does not become what Joel Schumacher did to Batman with Batman Forever and Batman & Robin (which as a kid I admit I didn't mind that much), but after The Avengers I feel that we shouldn't continue off of it with Iron Man 3, let Iron Man 3 go about on its own and not include the other heroes. Sure you could include cameos, but adding more heroes onto Iron Man 3, would be like making an Avengers 2. Do we really want to experince the 90's comic book movie again? I'm all for the Marvel Universe don't get me wrong but some of these movies should play out on their own. I just have a feeling that without Jon Favreau, the franchise will continue to drop until Christopher Nolan rides in on the bat pod and says "blam heres my story treatment for 'Iron Man Rises'". So post below whatever comments you have on the subject. If you agree with me, I know you're a true believer.

I would be worried too if it was sony or fox but this is marvel and they dont let just one guy make the movie there are alot of them and they know what they are doing so iron man 3 will be just fine .

there is plenty of directors that marvel could choose from, jon favreau isn't the only one who could direct iron man 3.

If Ironman wasn't involved in the Marvel Movie Universe they would probably end up rebooting him or something.

I just dont think there would be as many directors that could do better than favs.

JJ Abrams is my first pick. only because I'd doubt Nolan would like to do it.
I have a feeling that the threequel curse will plague IM3.

well the only reason Im jumping to conclusion is because superhero movies have had a curse with their threequels.

Haha I was thinking about saying Kevin Smith but I thought Nolan was more realistic lol.

The only thing I don't agree with is the IM2 being less of a movie than 1. I liked 2 better, the intro of War machine had to be done in the movie medium, after all, we can't expect people to watch hundreds of movies to get where they are now. It all fit. I think 3 will be good no matter who directs it.

One director I envisioned was Zack Snyder but he's busy doing the Superman reboot.

As I understood it there was good bit of improv to both films. Now improving a film may work great on rare occasions (Iron Man) but doing it twice can push your luck and lead to a mess (Iron Man 2) in most cases.

Both films seemed loose and fun, for sure, but a tight fast paced actioner could be a nice change. I think a new style would work just fine with Iron Man, just so long as the new director gets who Tony is. I trust Marvel to do what is best and find someone who fits really well with the character to direct the next film, so I'm not worried in the least.

Why do so many of we Fanboys fear change? Jesus, not every change is bad and not eveything is worse if it changes. I've said for years the best way to do CBMs is to get rid of the idea of single director dominated trilogies and producer dynasties on CBMs. Mixing up directors every other film, and even recasting leads every few films could be a good thing when it comes to avoiding a franchise going stale.

CBMs, to me, should be like Bond movies, linear yet fluid. Its not as if these characters can age in real time with new films coming out every three or so years, Spidey couldn't be acknowledged as being near 30 in Spidey 4, could he? Like Bond and the comics themselves, the characters of CBMs are going to need to exist in a sort of time limbo, whatever story they are telling is happening now, and the character will age at a markedly slow rate. This means recasting every few films.

Look at the changing of actors and director as the changing of a titles artist, and the new writers and producers as the changing of the writing and editorial staff. Some changes are good and last a long while, some not so good and they get a shorter run, but the story itself fixes the damage and continues on. We accept this in comics, why can we not accept it in CBMs?

@NERO though i agree with pretty much everything you said, personally i would love to see characters age through the film.. spider-man esspecially works well for that image over say six films we could see him go from high school, college, teacher, father.. i would love if the film wrote there own continuity and went away like there own alternate universe.. if marvel have the universe going as one single entity then in 30 years time i dont want want the characters to be unaged and in the same place, i want progression.. i want change.

The fact is lack of change is the one thing that harms comic books, we are stuck with the same characters in the same place for 60 years... and if someone realizes they have moved abit away from what they were back then we get Crisis that rewrite it all or Devils that do the same job.

let characters die, let progression happen.

I admire your enthusiasm dude, but I think it'll be better for both of them. Favs didn't like getting dicked with by Marvel busy bodies who forced him into making Iron Man 2 suck (I'm sorry, I thought it was terrible, and Favs and Downey kinda admitted that too). With someone else stepping in, they'll have to rethinnk their strategies, and Favs is just gonnna move on to better things. Guys like him and JJ Abrams are gonna be the new Speilberg and Zemekis. I think Marvel knows they have to butt out and I think that's one of the reasons Favs left. I think that the next Iron Man flick has to be more about him and enough with all the other people and perhaps a character who doesn't just end up in a knock-off iron man suit in the end like the last two did.

Marvel is a difficult company to work with and I think DC has wisened up enough to know when an artist comes in, you let him do his thing and leave him alone. After enough flops and when they sink their own ships, Marvel will do the same (granted it'll be in ten or 15 years but it will happen).

Iron Man was an alright film that had it's flaws, but IM2 was COMPLETE SHIT. the acting, script, and over all pace of the film was a mess. I hated the film and I'm glad Jon quit. They need to do something fresh with Iron Man in the Avengers and IM3 cause RDJ acting like himself in a suit doesn't have much of a lasting value.

Jon Favreau is a good director, a great director for Iron Man, but replaceable.

What gets me is that he won't be playing Happy Hogan anymore.

Yeah thats what I keep wondering is how will they replace Happy Hogan.

Favs didn't make Iron Man what it is.

Robert Downey Jr. did.

Would be a bigger loss if RDJ left rather then Favs.

Directors are replaceable, an actor like RDJ as Tony Stark isn't
