Andrew Stanton And Michael Chabon Are Working On JOHN CARTER: THE GODS OF MARS

While nothing is confirmed, it seems that Andrew Stanton, who directed and co-wrote John Carter, is working with Michael Chabon on the sequel to the science fiction epic...

Even though it is common to start writing a sequel when working on a big film like John Carter, we now have some solid info on that. According to Coming Soon, Andrew Stanton and the co-writer of John Carter Michael Chabon, have started working on adapting Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Gods of Mars, which is a second novel in the BARSOOM series, and of course it would be a sequel to the first film.

"Speaking with producer Jim Morris, we learned that Stanton and his co-writer Michael Chabon have already been talking and doing some planning and writing for a sequel, which would tentatively be called John Carter: The Gods of Mars, based on Burroughs' second novel."

Also, yesterday, there was a big press junket for John Carter in Arizona, and this is what they added regarding the film:

"We're currently under an embargo preventing us from sharing our thoughts but trust us when we say that after you see the movie, you'll more than likely want to see a sequel."

Again, the sequel has not been greenlit just yet. As a fan of the novels, I really do hope that we will see The Gods of Mars, which continues the adventures of Captain John Carter.

Starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter is set to hit theatres on March 9!

I'm curious about how or if they will depict the First Born, who are described pretty clearly as Black Men (who John Carter says are handsome, which in his words is unusual for him to say as a Southerner). It will be tough to avoid cries of racism, although Lord of the Rings somehow managed to with its depictions of Orcs and Easterlings.

I hope JC does well. I'm still trying to read Princess of Mars but I have very little time to read anything at home. That's why I'm always on this site at work :) I'm up to the part where Sola reveals her father's identity to JC.

@NoAssemblyReqd

I was wondering the same thing. NO WAY is anyone in Hollywood or Disney going to allow a race of murdering, canablistic, raping, pirates be called black men. WAAAAAY too controversial. No way is that making it into a sequel to John Carter.

Although in ERB's defense, the white men of mars were also murdering, canablistic, raping, slave trading, zealots; leading the other races to their deaths for their religion.
