This from AICN...

* Dominic West, who played Baltimore cop Jimmy McNulty on five seasons of “The Wire,”(as well as Jigsaw in Punisher Warzone) will play Sab Than, the Martian prince who in the books tried to force the fabulous red Martian princess Dejah Thoris to marry him.

* Samantha Morton, psychic-girl Agatha in “Minority Report,” will play Sola, the 10-foot-tall four-armed green secret daughter of Martian warrior Tars Tarkas. In the books she instructed Carter in Martian language and culture.

* Polly Walker, a secret human monotheist in Syfy's "Caprica" and Octavian’s mom Atia on both seasons of HBO’s “Rome,” will play Sarkoja, the old green martian chieftan who in the books killed Sola’s mom long before Carter’s arrival.

They join Taylor Kitsch (“Wolverine”), Lynn Collins (“Wolverine”) and Willem Dafoe (“Spider-Man”), who play John, Dejah and Tars, respectively. The movie is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2012. Writer-director Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL-E”) makes his live-action directorial debut from a screenplay by Stanton and Michael Chabon (“Wonder Boys,” “Spider-Man 2”).

This cast is looking good! I'm not too familiar with Walker out side of a few scenes in the Caprica pilot, but West and Morton are great..if you don't count that silly performance in Warzone!

Rome is probably the best show ever cancelled prematurely, outside of Arrested Development.

West is an awesome actor. He was even good in Punisher. The Punisher WZ movie was just bad writing and direction, the cast of the flic did their parts as good as they could under such shitty circumstances.

I just watched Punisher Warzone with my nephew . his first and my second. My nephew is older than me and a movie connoisseur. He loved the movie and remembered both the other versions which both he an i thought were laughable at best. We loved watching this one. a little over the top but at least as good as DareDevil the DIrectors cut and Tits above Wilt-erine - Origins. Which he couldnt wait to see , so i showed him and he didnt bother to finish. So for the record i loved Punisher Warzone as a Comic Book Movie and it was a Better Adaption than "Tran-Let-Downs : Revenge of the Fallen" and "G.I. Thanks for nothing" , And especially Wolverine : ThankgGodItsOver-ins

@Shibazz I thought Punisher:Warzone was pretty good too even if it was a little, as-you-said over-the-top...

Superdog, John Carter of Mars was written a long time ago by a guy by the name of, Edgar Rice Burroughs. I think you might be familiar with him. He wrote Tarzan.

From Wkipedia:

Carter stands 6′2″ tall and has close-cropped black hair and steel-gray eyes. Burroughs portrays him as an immortal being. In the opening pages of A Princess of Mars, the author reveals to the reader that Carter can remember no childhood, having always been a man of about thirty years old. Many generations of families referred to him as "Uncle Jack," but he always lived to see all the members of the families grow old and die, while he remained young.

His character and courtesy exemplify the ideals of the antebellum South. A Virginian, he served as a captain in the American Civil War on the side of the Confederacy. He strikes it rich by finding gold in Arizona after the end of hostilities. While hiding from Apaches in a cave, he seemingly dies, and leaving his inanimate body behind is mysteriously transported by a form of astral projection to the planet Mars, where he finds himself re-embodied in a form identical to his earthly one. Accustomed to the greater gravity of Earth, he is much stronger than the natives of Mars.

On Mars, which its natives call Barsoom, Carter encounters both formidable alien creatures resembling the beasts of ancient myth and various humanoids and finds his true calling in life as a warrior-savior of the planet's inhabitants.
