JOHN CARTER: Taylor Kitsch on Playing Heroes ... "I'm Done with Gambit"

What's it like playing the title character in a (BIG) movie like this, and seeing your picture everywhere?

My ego loves it! (Laughing) It's great man. There's such a huge struggle at the beginning of my career, and who's to say where it goes, but... I think too, its just the work you put in. At the end of the day its not like I'm looking back saying, hey, I had a billboard. Whatever. It's the work I put in, and THAT's what I'm most proud of. You know? For sure.

So, you've been Gambit, and you've been John Carter. Are there any other heroes that you want to be?

Chon was quite fun in "Savages" (laughing). A different type of hero, but, um, no. You know, I never set out to be any of these guys. That's not how I pick my roles. It's all about who you're working with and the character you're portraying, and if there's substance to that. So. And being better at the end of the day for doing the gig. So, um, I'd do it all over again. I'm not on the phone with my team going, Kay, go through Marvel comic books and lets pick out another guy. (laughing)

Why not? There are a few left.

Not for me though. I'm done with it.

You mean you're NOT going to do it if they want you to play Gambit again?

I don't think so. We'll see. I mean, my plate is so full, and I'm excited to go gritty again. And we'll see what happens with this next job, if I get it, but. It'll be [frick]ing gritty man.

Nobody asked what this "gritty" role was about. And I doubt he could've answered the question if we did--seeing how he wasn't sure if he was going to get it, but it must be something good if he's not interested in playing Gambit in his own spin-off.

From Academy Award®--winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter is set to hit theatres on March 9!

Yeah I thought he was decent as Gambit, not perfect but I liked it. He was just in a crap movie.
Though, I don't think a Gambit solo film would work.

Did everyone miss the part around 1:30 where he said "Not for me though. I'm done with it"?

He then follows up with "We'll see"...

Gritty? Someone must have used that word around him, so now he says it a lot.

As opposed to acting ability, actual character depth, or talent.

As mediocre as Wolverine turned out, I'm not surprised that he's not dying to play another comic book character.

Maybe, but maybe not. I think Hugh Jackman could have done it if he was younger, probably would have been better at Gambit than Wolverine.

Gavin Hood was a horrendous director so until i see how "bad" Kitsch is in John Carter, i still say he did great with what he was given and how he was directed to play Gambit. You can't make a horse drink water but you can sure as hell bring him to it. Hood [frick]ing killed that movie on his own, regardless how much "hands on" the studio was.

wow fattieacid i agree too but who the hell is he.... and to everyone else.. when x-men 3 was being made the writers and producers and director agreed that gambit was to important to just throw into there cluster[frick] of mutants he deserve a more important role and to anyone who says hes not as popular or important.... suck a fat one he needs to be in a future movie with either this dude working on his accent and a better costume or the guy fattieacid chose
SpiderSurfer
SpiderSurfer - 2/24/2012, 2:41 PM
