From Academy Award®--winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

So, yeah, this should have been aired during Super Bowl instead. Not that I didn't like that one, but this TV spot is much, much better. Also, I love how Stanton managed to capture the look of Barsoom, and the action looks truly amazing. What do you think?

Starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter is set to hit theatres on March 9!

I hope this film does well. The Barsoom books have needed a good film version for a long time. So far, this looks very good. Some changes from the books, but I would expect that books written that long ago would need a few changes.

Guess I'm a tad lame for trolling CBM at 11:30pm on a Tuesday all by my lonesome.

localman: Yeah, there are definitely a couple of changes. And I really don't mind. Same goes for most CBMs. Just because they change something, doesn't mean it's a bad thing. So far, I'm loving everything I've seen from this.

It's the lighter gravity on Mars that does it---same thing as Superman on Earth.

I think the ad guys made a mistake in not mentioning the story's origins in the trailers. It's too easy for your average filmgoer to think this movie is derivative of STAR WARS and AVATAR, when the reverse is true.

Something like "From the stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs..." would give this movie some cred even from people who never read the books.

Or perhaps they could have begun with a quick montage of the various book and comic book covers, to pay homage to the story's pulpy roots.

The 1 minute clip is good, but a 2 minute trailer is better. I am not familiar with John Carter of Mars, but if the Avengers wasn't coming out this year, this would have a real chance at best movie of the year.

WHY wasn't this the Superbowl ad? dammit you marketing clowns, I am sick and [frick]en tired of having to defend this movie due to your slow burn marketing scheme that led everyone toward indifference.
