Taylor "Gambit" Kitsch Lands Lead in "John Carter of Mars"

Friday Night Lights' Taylor Kitsch -- the breakout star of X-Men Origins: Wolverine -- has landed the coveted lead role in Disney's John Carter of Mars, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mars will be the first live-action effort from Andrew Stanton, the Oscar-winning director of Pixar favorites Wall-E and Finding Nemo. The film, a big-budget adaptation of the series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, tells the story of a civil war veteran (Kitsch) who is transported to Mars to fight in an epic war between the planet's opposing races. Kitsch's X-Men co-star Lynn Collins has also been cast. Disney is aiming for an early 2010 start date, with dreams of launching a blockbuster franchise on the same level as Pirates of the Caribbean.

For those who don't know who John Carter of Mars is... You need to read more. Below is a Frank Frazetta book cover from one of the early paperbacks. John Carter was a dude who somehow finds himself on Mars, and because of the lower gravity, he is like their Superman--in a medieval kind of swords and sorcery way.

heh, Betty it's funny you mention that because john carter was shown in the second league of extraordinary gentleman book, which was not as satisfying as the first.

But still, I enjoyed the story john carter of mars, I remember John favraue was once attached to direct it but it got stuck in development hell. I'm glad it's getting made.

Dont know about the Disney involement, but the plot seems cool. Never read the comic, but the cover reminds me of Camelot 3000.

Yeah the disney involvement sounds weird, I mean like the conan stories scantly clad women play a huge part of john carter. It's bad pulp fiction, the boobs go without saying.

E.R.B. actually came up with John Carter(the Warlord of Mars) before he came up with Tarzan. Both characters are kind of repetitive, but the books are a lot of fun to read. I've been waiting for this movie for a looooong time. Hopefully they don't screw it up!

sorry LEEE, but just to let you know you would have seen it coming anyways, a lot of ppl die in that series and most of em you see coming, also you will never guess who the killer is, they do a really good job of hiding it.

Also have fun rewinding Anna Paquin's first sex scene over and over and over the first time I saw that I was like OMG!! my life is now complete I have seen Rogue's boobies.
