JOKER Star Joaquin Phoenix Speechless After "Joke" Footage Of Him Storming Off Set Is Shown On JIMMY KIMMEL

Well, this is a weird way to promote Joker! During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, an outtake from the DC Comics movie was shown and star Joaquin Phoenix didn't quite know how to respond. Check it out.

Joaquin Phoenix appeared on last night's Jimmy Kimmel Live, and after a lengthy chat about Joker, the host screened some outtakes from the DC Comics adaptation.

As you can see at the 8:27 mark in the player below, the footage shows Phoenix getting frustrated with the movie's cinematographer and swearing over the fact he referred to him as "Cher." Eventually, he gets up and storms off set completely and when we cut back to the actor on the show, he's understandably embarrassed and doesn't quite know what to say.

Why Warner Bros. would choose to release footage like this is hard to say, but Phoenix appeared to have been caught completely off guard and it's hard to imagine him being happy about it.

In related news, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Omaha has shared a PSA-style Joker poster on its Facebook page in which they make it clear that this is one R-Rated movie not suitable for kids.

Check out that and the outtakes from the movie below.

UPDATE: There's been a lot of debate about whether this outtake from Joker was just a, well, joke and Phoenix's publicist has now told Entertainment Weekly that the footage shown during Jimmy Kimmel Live "was a joke outtake." Needless to say, he certainly showed what a good actor he is with that extremely believable reaction...

One part of me thinks that was legit.
Another part of me gave me vibes of Fleck interacting with Murray Franklin.
Almost like they were doing their own version of that talk show scene as foreshadowing to the audience of what to expect in the film.

Like when they see the film, they are gonna go, “OH EM GEE, That is almost like what happened on Kimmel Live!”

Something to that nature.

Joaquin is such a good actor that i can't even tell what's real or not anymore...

@Doomsday8888 - If mumbling awkwardness is acting, then where the [frick] is my Oscar? I've been doing that shit thirty years!

@MadKingCipher - If I got into an elevator with Joachin Phoenix, he wouldn't last three floors before shouting "what the [frick] is wrong with you" and hammering the door open button.

Give me all the awards!

@MadKingCipher - Nope. I always take my socks off before getting strapped to a table.

@MadKingCipher - Oh, I thought they were toe-socks. (Which I do wear... and I do forget to take off...) Oh, shit, that might be me.

People remember Joaquin Phoenix’s Andy Kaufman-like appearance on David Letterman back when he claimed that he had quit acting to become a rap musician, right? He did a whole stretch of public appearances that were part of the act... it was all for his film “I’m Still Here”.

The guy is an actor, and his promotional appearances are part of the act for him.

Whether the clip is real or not (certainly could be... seems like a reasonable moment of frustration), The presentation of it and reaction here is all part of the show... and I don’t mean Kimmel’s.

@TyrantBossMedia - when he can go in front of a live audience and make them and the host as uncomfortable as he did with his purposeful awkwardness in that Letterman appearance, and publicly sell the idea that he’d become unhinged and want to do bad rap for a living for 2 years all to set up an experimental film, it’s clear that he’s not especially genuine on these talk shows.

Which is not a criticism... they are shows. He has no reason to share the ‘real’ him on them, and so playing a role and making them part of the larger campaign for the film is a perfectly valid artistic choice, and pretty damn ballsy.

But WB had to supply the footage, so...

Joaquin Phoenix and talk show hosts aren't exactly a great combination, whether that's in real life or in movies
