Josh Brolin On The Jonah Hex Post-Production Changes!

The actor talks more about Jonah Hex's rough road to the big screen and reveals just how happy he is with the final cut of the film...

"Extremely." the actor said when asked how satisfied he is with the final cut of the movie. However, he did go on to reveal that it: "went through a lot of manifestations of what this was going to be, especially in post-production."

"The more involved I get in film, you see what you get and all the footage you get when you're shooting, and once you get into the editing room you go, 'Wow, if you take this scene and put it into the beginning, and actually cut up these two scenes and inter-cut them, it's a lot more dynamic than we initially thought. So whatever initial intentions I had in the beginning were kind of blown apart once we were shooting, and those were all reconstructed by the time we got into the editing room."

"There was a lot of humor I saw the opportunity for that we didn't necessarily see on the set," he added. "I always wanted those great one-liners — those Charles Bronson-esque and Clint Eastwood-esque one-liners. I'm a huge fan of those, so I wanted to bring that back as much as I could without doing any kind of copycatting."

"Once we saw the opportunity for that, we thought, 'Wow, if we did additional shooting, we could bring that out more, we could extrapolate on that more, we could exploit that more,' and I think we did. So this last cut, I'm very very happy with."

despite him being 'extremely happy' with the final film, its still getting scorching reviews...
he HAS to say hes happy with it now, but 5 years from now hes gonna say that this was one of the worst experiences of his life. mark my words...

No, if Brolin had that much influence, it just shows how much talent was lacking behind the cameras. He's a great actor, but letting him do whatever is just bad judgement. DC got what they paid for in hiring newbie director and lousy writers. I like this except from review:

"Jonah Hex somehow manages to waste the talents of Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, Will Arnett, Aidan Quinn and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in a story that combines vengeance, the occult and an Old West war on terror (really)."

Gotta agree with you Hela, I'm sure he can't really come out now and say that it sucks donkey butt. In five years he'll be doing some interview and totally hack on it.

Gonna wait for DVD on this one I think.

I'm not familiar with the Jonah Hex comic books but judging by the reviews I've read, going back and adding more humour (which sounds like a lame excuse for reshoots anyway) was a huge mistake! This whole interview sounds pretty false actually and I have to agree with HelaGood's comment about how he more than likely really feels about the movie!

I posted a couple of articles a month or so ago and it sounded like he was passing a kidney stone to get something good out of his mouth about the movie. He showed Zero enthusiasm.

There is no way he is "extremely" satisfied with the movie. I think that much should be obvious. As well as the blatantly shitty quality of this movie.

No.

I've never been a Hex fan, but if this came across as more Pale Rider than Wild Wild West crossed with Maverick cut to a heavy metal soundtrack (wtf?) I might have been interested.

Reshoots to insert one-liners? And if it's barely 80 minutes long now, what kind of mess was it before those reshoots? A script that was so loose you can shift entire scenes around? I have a baaad feeling about this. No. Not sounding like a quality production at all.

Miss.

Edit: Just read Hawk's review. Dear oh dear. How are they still getting things SO wrong? I don't expect brilliance each and every time, but surely you'd think they'd have gotten the basics by now? :shakeshead:

As far as I can tell no one on here talking shit about the movie has actually seen it. I did and I enjoyed it. It's not a masterpiece of film making but it was a fun movie that didn't drag on for too long and had some great moments. Some movies can be torn apart without having seen them (I can tell you now that Smurfs will suck balls) but I think most people will at least have fun watching this so give it a chance.

@crisis: the point is that you must WANT to see a movie first. Nothing I've seen has made me go "yes, I want to see that" - quite the opposite. Reading Hawk's review only confirms those initial expectations/worst fears.

It's all well and good saying "go see it before you judge it" and I certainly won't judge it until I have, but if it doesn't get me through the door in the first place, then the movie (or the marketing at least) hasn't done its job.

And the 13% on RT doesn't help either. :)

@LEEE face it man, the crowd has spoken. it holds 6% on RT. Jonah Hex failed, just as predicted.

its only 75 minutes long! too short for sumthin like that!

CANT WAIT 2 SEE TOY STORY 3!

I saw it as well and I concur with ozy's assessment about it being shit. And I like the character so I was really hoping I could at least enjoy something about it. Wrong.

This is what I like to call, "Mind-fuk it to death."

It's when you have a project that is really nice to begin with but then you begin to over analyze it and turn it into a mess. If you are working on a team with a few "mind-fukers", you need at least one "Master-unfuker." To, you know, balance it out.

WELL I LOVED IT!!! I especially like the part where the bad guy is about to raise the dead and The Doctor arrives and shuts down the "mystical" mechanism with his sonic Screwdriver and says "that's not voo doo, that's temporary micro-celular manipulation..." and then he, wait... wrong movie...
this movie sucks...

I heard horrible things about Jonah Hex. So i went to see Toy Story 3 (very good by the way). I went to the bathroom in the theater and found a Jonah Hex ticket in the urinal. I couldn't stop laughing at the irony.

Really respect Brolin for the work he's done in the last 5 years - and we've seen what he can do, but this "I love the final product" thing is of the moment impulsive, and I agree he'll eventually think it's the worst thing he's ever done in five years.

Completely agree with Helagood, definitely agree with Betty

He has to say he "loves it" during the promotion - it's probably in the contract.

@Gunsmith completely agree on the eye (I thought for sure they were gonna cg it in when he talked to the dead or something).

And they even pulled a ripoff gag from TDK.

It's the worst cbm I've seen in a long while.
