I went into this movie with REALLY low expectations after reading some reviews, so I knew what I was going into. Jonah Hex is basically just a popcorn flick really. But I'll get on with the review...

The plot is that Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone...and anything. Having survived death, Jonah’s violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the “other side.” His only human connection is with Lilah (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own. Jonah’s past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can’t refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah’s oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead.

Josh Brolin is pretty good as Jonah Hex, I felt someone else could have played the role a bit better but he gave a good performance. John Malkovich is hands down the best actor in this flick, his performance as Quentin Turnbull was great. Megan Fox was, uhhhh, well she was basically shit in this movie, her performance sucked and her accent sounded weird to me also. Fassbender was good to, not the best actor, but he was LOADS better than Megan Fox!

What I don't understand is why Warner Bros. would release this film on the same day as Toy Story 3, they're mad! If this film had stuck to it's August release date it would have had the chance to have made a good profit for it's budget!

Overall, the film is shit (excuse me for my language but I felt it was necessary to say), from start to finish. Yeah, there are a few redeeming factors in this movie (Malkovich, Brolin) but the film is to short (81 minutes = WTF?), and in my opinion the film isn't worth you hard earned cash. Fortunatley I didn't have to pay to see this (Me and my friends theater hopped after Toy Story 3 was over). So be warned, this film is not to be taken for the faint of heart.

-1 out of 4 stars-

My review of Toy Story 3 will be up tomorrow sometime.

Seriously, this movie looked like shit from the very beginning - why do they even bother to make movies like that? :(

Good review, Ozy! :)

well hell. I guess it's virtually unanimous, then.

I went to the theater this afternoon to try and catch it but the screaming rugrats and endless lines of snotty yuppies there to see Toy Story drove me out of there like the devil at an exorcism

Maybe I'll try again tomorrow

what doesn't help is that WB OWNS EVERYTHING DC, this seems to be more of an independent western flick...not a big budget action movie

film wasnt all that bad i mean yeah i agree it could have been a badass western with supernatural elments in it but it felt all too rushed nd cgi looked like shit nd definately deserved a better storyline..if anything now that DC ENTERTAINMENT is up they will be able to atleast stay true nd find better writers/directors to do em jus my view on it....

DEATHSTROKEE @ Its one of them movies where everyone (well the sheep lol) hate it, and most havn't seen it yet lol!

Sorry OZ, the films not perfect but it beats that [frick]ing lame attempt rebooted NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET you like, ten times over dude! ; D

Good review though, no cigar!

I'm still amazed JONAH HEX still ever got made, brings hope to other more obscure comic book characters!!!

[frick] WB for making the movie too short though!

P.S. [frick] TOY STORY 3! : P

Everyone will say Fox is the worst thing about this movie, but imo her scenes look the best, show Hex still has some humanity, and imo they make the most sense (i.e. actually are edited correctly lol).

agree that Brolin's decent; Malco's scenes are all chopped up, and he isn't given enough time to do what he does best. He can get really scary if given proper direction/development/screentime, and that didn't at all happen in this movie. So considering, he's one of the best things about the movie, it's probably the worst performance of his career.

@Lee really Hex if there was a proper script would've been a producer's wet dream - a cbm Unforgiven or 3:10?

I'm afraid this is going to hurt alot of more obscure properties.

Jonah Hex deserves a re -do the film isn't as bad as every one says and who the frak says a movie must be over 2 hours?
the Film was badly promoted by WB they strayed to far from the source .
One they should've stuck to the true origin of Jonah .,
but no we get stuck with William Farmer's crappy ass story line they made Turnball the general instead of being a plantation owner and since they changed the circumstances of Jeb Turnball's death you really don't get the vengance that drives Turnball's hatred and blaming Jonah Hex for causing his son's death
so we don't get Turnball's burning desire to see Jonah dead , he would've killed Jonah out right in the begining of the film .

Instead he's bent on destroying Washington DC .

where's the revenge factor?
If they can't get David Goyer to write a new Jonah Hex film and have it done right the writing team of Jimmy P. and Justin Grey will do Jonah Justice.
And If DC decides to do an animated movie for Jonah Hex it must be NO Way Back no ifs an buts about it.
Hell No Way Back would've been a killer of a live action movie for that matter.
