The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The film opens in 3D September 21st.

Damn, you beat me to it. Anyway, they look pretty neat...and, yes; bring the [frick]ing trailer, please.

The uniform is anything but "spot-on", no eagle, no chained badge, no colour!! It just looks cheap and dull with bits moulded into a rubber suit for convenient quick removal.

At least Stallones version captured the 'splendour' and 'pride' of having a uniform representing the establishment. This just looks like dirt-bike gear. and once again, Karl Urban has no physique to occupy that suit let alone the helmet.

The films comes out in three months and there hasn't even been a teaser trailer yet. That's not a good sign at all. I hope I'm wrong and the film ends up being great but I'm worried.

The design of the uniform is perfect in my opinion. Very reminiscent of early Dredd. Particularly the way Ezquerra drew Dredd in The Apocalypse War. Can't wait for the trailer. I have a feeling it may be online later today.

SMART TO KEEP THE TRAILER FROM US? SMART TO KEEP US GUESSING? SMART NOT TO HYPE THIS MOVIE UP AND ADVERTISE ALL THE GOOD SCENES? YES...

I'm really looking forward to this movie. I have a soft spot for Dredd as i used to read 2000AD as a kid before i discovered America comics. Particular favourites were Dredd, Strontium Dog, ABC Warriors (spread the word...) and Rogue Trooper.

I know it wasn't exactly what i would have envisioned for a Dredd movie, but am i the only person in the world that actually likes the first Dredd movie? It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it is still reasonably entertaining. It had Hammerstein in it, gotta love it for that if nothing else:)

I got a big feeling this film is not good, dare I say, awful. No way would you keep delaying a trailer, or even a teaser trailer, this long if the end product was good. I don't buy into the 'excuse': "we got to wait until all the other big summer releases are out before we can hype this film."

Sorry, that excuse doesn't convince me. A teaser trailer could/should have been released end of May just to get some early buzz going. It's mid-June and still no footage. NOTHING.

As for these new photos, I thought MC-1 cits/gangs wore more outrageous clothing.

Does anyone know what year this film is meant to be set in? Alex Garland's screenplay mentions no time date and I'm getting an early 21st century feel to much of this film! Modern day vehicles, modern day clothes; ain't seeing much Judge Dredd type look to this film aside from the modified Judge uniforms.

Judge Dredd's look was inpsired by this poster:

Carlos Ezquerra adaped that look and added the US Department of Justice Seal to the right shoulder pad:

The eagle. :)

I wouldn't put any money on that! :P The trailer might be held back up until release of The Dark Knight Rises in mid July. It's kind of annoying having two offical Facebook pages:

Lionsgate

and

the official Dredd page

and neither of them can hint/tell when the trailer is arriving. Bit pointless having such pages when they don't wish to inform fans and movie goers when this trailer is coming out. Every day people post on the Dredd Facebook page asking "where is the trailer?" and not one official reply to clarify the situation. :(

Inspired too. :P Typo.

Instant, I stand by my comments about the trailer. If the trailer is good, why hold it back? If the trailer/film suck then you would want to hold back the trailer because you're worried. Executive producer Stuart Ford hyped up Dredd saying stuff like "this is a film we think will appeal to fan boys, Dredd fans, action fans." Well, if he's right why aren't they showcasing it in a trailer?

If this film is good, why the need to hide it from the public?

I dunno the reason other than a 'guess' the film is a bit poor and they're in no hurry to show any footage. And 'footage' is the key word here. A few good photos do not represent footage. People may like the new look uniform and that cool shot of the skyline and blocks but it's not actual footage. Let's see some acting, camera movement, frames of moving film, and then we will know if this film is Dredd On Arrival or Dead On Arrival!

I just hope it doesn't turn into another punisher war zone. violent with some cool explosions, but ultimately forgettable and dumb.

I think the damage is done. Mud sticks. I'm sure there are some film fans that are thinking "this film must be crap if there's no trailer." It may be an irrational or unfair belief to hold but people will think that.

Why make this film harder than it needs to be? You're making it harder to win over *new* fans by delaying the trailer until the last moment. Dredd doesn't need that. I would have thought it imperative to release a teaser trailer mid or late May. Set out your stall. Show the world: "This is Dredd, a new film. Please see our trailer."

They didn't even show any stuff at Kapow! 2012, a major(ish) BRITISH comic convention.

Seems like the damage has been done. Perhaps the trailer will arrive before August and look good. But I think they - the producers/investor/marketing people - have messed this up. We live in the internet era with instant communication so why would filmmakers want to ignore this amazing technology and keep a teaser trailer hidden away?

We don't have to see the full trailer. They can delay that to August (!) but a one minute teaser trailer shouldn't break the marketing budget, and if they're seriously worried about other films hogging all the attention so they can't release any footage then just forget about a theatrical release and make it a straight to DVD/Blu ray release!

"I just hope it doesn't turn into another punisher war zone. violent with some cool explosions, but ultimately forgettable and dumb."

Don't read the leaked screenplay. It might confirm your fears! It's a fairly brainless, unimaginative version of Judge Dredd but it's just my opinion. You're welcome to disagree. :) One thing is certain - *the plot is identical to The Raid Redemption* so it's not as if Alex Garland - the Dredd screenwriter - has come up with an imaginative take on Dredd's world. Far, far from it and the likes of Instant Justice can try to deny that but they are wrong. The plot of Dredd is IDENTICAL to The Raid. It also has a lot of Die Hard to it. Anyone expecting some wildly imaginative new Judge Dredd film, *sorry, this is not it*.

@INSTANTJUSTICE / jimoakley666 - Ok first thing, I used to draw Judge Dredd for 200AD for a living back in the 90's plus I used to buy the comic as a kid from the first issue back in 1978 so I know al about the history of the costume and what it looks like already, ok?

Yes Stallone's costume was not spot on but it got a lot of the basic elements right like the eagle, the chain and the shoulder padding although that should not have been metallic and the material for the body suit should have been leather.

That Carlos Ezquerra picture you used as reference is both old and in black and white, if you used one from the same era in colour it would show how much is missing from the distinctive look of Dredd's costume. It does not matter what or where Carlos got his influences from, the movie isn't about his influences, it's about Dredd! Carlos's drew Dredd as a black guy, that was his vision, later artists drew him as white with a big chin simply because they didn't understand why he made the lips so prominent.

Dredd's costume and his face evolved due to the many artists who drew him and that's what they have to depict in the film, the recognised icon of Dredd. That iconic look has nothing to do with looking shabby and dirty in costume. They're a union of both judicial system and police force rolled in to one which is why they wear regalia such as an Eagle. THIS IS ESSENTIAL and its not prominent on the new film's costume. Their version is cheap looking like something you'd knock up for an episode of Dr Who. It's not in the spirit of a prestigious establishment atire that one would aspire to wear with pride. Stallones version may not have been spot on, but it got the prestigious element at least correct.

And just for the record here's my last work for 2000AD (well actually it was for the Megazine) which was a strip called The Web, it was the first meeting between Dredd and Shimura. They later collected it up with various stories into a graphic Novel called Shimura.

@Nomis - Thanks, yeah it was cool back then, I did a lot of stuff like posters for conventions, did a graphic novel for the Lone Wolf series with Joe Dever too. But I got tired of that side of the business and moved on to running a comic and film merchandise shop for 7 years. Easily the best job ever, I couldn't go back to freelancing as a comic book illustrator after that, I just stayed in retail. Now days it all seems like another life completely.

@ Ceejay - I agree about the eagle and I really miss the chain from zipper to badge. I'm guessing they wanted a more "Blade Runner" feel, gritty and worn out and less of a Star Wars feel, but I do think they could've gone a little more faithful to the uniform from the comics. I just hope the acting and dialogue is not cheesy like the Stallone movie.

Nice comments and pics Ceejay.

I don't see why people use the original as the defining version of a comic book character when defending the look of a movie version.

Can you imagine a movie with the original Superman, Batman, Aquaman and Iron Man outifts to name a few?
