JUSTICE LEAGUE Cinematographer Confirms That Black-Suit Superman Did Appear Before Scenes Were Cut
Most of us expected to see Superman don his black suit when he returned from the grave in Justice League, and cinematographer Fabian Wagner has now confirmed that "quite a few scenes" were actually shot.
In the buildup to the release of Justice League, fans were given every reason to believe that when The Man of Steel was resurrected to join the fight against Steppenwolf, he would be wearing the black and silver costume the character sported in the Death of Superman comics.
Though we never saw an official promo shot of the outfit, several pieces of tie in merchandise displayed it, and even Henry Cavill himself appeared to tease the darker suit on social media.
Of course, we now know that Supes wore the classic blue and red duds he was in the last time we saw him.
Previous reports indicated that the costume was never going to feature in the film anyway, but cinematographer Fabian Wagner (Game of Thrones) has now set the record straight during an interview with Inverse.com:
“There were [quite a few scenes shot]. It’s a cool looking costume. Sadly we didn’t see that either in the final cut. Zack takes his time with telling the stories and I’ve always liked that about his movies. There are a few scenes that I was very much looking forward to seeing which unfortunately got cut.”
Something else that never made the theatrical release was a shot from one of the trailers with Alfred addressing a mysterious individual. That had to be Superman... right? Wagner is keeping mum on that, but he does say he loved the scene and hopes we all get to see it one day.
Justice League is in theaters now... sans black-suit Superman.
