JUSTICE LEAGUE: Ezra Miller Talks About Having Wonder Woman And Batman As Mentors

As one the youngest members of the Justice League, Ezra Miller says that the Flash will have to learn to work alongside the veteran heroes of the team, and how to deal with Batman's irritable personality.

He may be the Fastest Man Alive, but Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) still has a lot to learn, especially since he's just starting out. As the youngest member of the Justice League, it would make sense for someone as inexperienced as Barry to look to his colleagues for a mentor/mentee relationship, considering he's working alongside the World's Greatest Detective and an Amazonian Warrior Princess.

When talking to Entertainment Weekly for this year's Comic-Con issue, Ezra Miller spoke about what it's like as the Flash when working with Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). “In Diana and Bruce, you have two very different veteran mentalities,” said Miller. “Wonder Woman has this powerful compassion. Bruce is more irritable, less tolerant. Barry’s in total awe of them. He knows this is the big leagues.”

It'll be interesting to see how Barry will look at Aquaman's (Jason Momoa) role when he finally decides to join the Justice League, or even Superman (Henry Cavill) for that matter.

I did not think of Batman as a mentor but more of a loner!
GhostDog
GhostDog - 7/20/2017, 9:35 PM
@Forthas - he's even a terrible mentor to his own sidekicks lol

@Forthas - Yeah! It's crazy. Batman would never be a mentor!

MrDandy
MrDandy - 7/20/2017, 9:37 PM
@Forthas - He's been both a loner and a team player in the comics. It can swing both ways. Kind of hard to call Batman a loner when he has a whole family of superheroes he has personally trained up.

@BlackBeltJones - DAMN!!!!! That is f*cked up!
Forthas
Forthas - 7/20/2017, 9:42 PM
@MrDandy - But those are humans and he chose those people and developed them over time. Based on BvS he is suspicious of metahumans...at least one of them. I can see him giving Wonder Woman a pass since she saved him!
Forthas

@JohnCena - Well...

Red Hood turned evil, Robin left him, and he has had behavioral problems with Damien. Maybe he is not a good mentor.

@MrDandy - Batman has a family but he's a terrible father when you really look at it. Bad mentor.

He is the originator of child endangerment. When you think of Batman’s many flaws, maybe fatherhood doesn’t immediately come to mind. His biggest flaw of all: Bruce’s obsession with grooming children to fight alongside him.

Bruce’s boys are one of the more tragic parts of Batman lore, though the obvious tragedy comes from the death of his parents the systematic abuse of vulnerable young men who are susceptible to Bruce’s very unique folie a deux is often far darker. They are often the true victims of his unrelenting and deranged sense of justice.

@Forthas - Did I say he was a good mentor? No. I didn't.

@BlackBeltJones - Hey, I'm not saying it's a wise life decision to train kids to go beat up criminals! I'm just making a case for Batman not always being portrayed as a loner.

@JohnCena

Actually I have never been a fan of the Robins...but that description of his psyche could make for some interesting story telling. He might see himself as saving these "kids" but in order to do that he has to train them and bring them into his world. Future movies could explore the toll it takes on the kids and Batman could come to realize that he has condemned them to a life of danger and heightened responsibility...thus in a sense killing them...or more specifically their chance for a normal life.

"As the youngest member of the Justice League..."

Isn't Cyborg the youngest member?
JohnCena
JohnCena - 7/20/2017, 9:42 PM
@obarium - The Flash is 24 because they used Ezra's own birthday for the movie. Ray Fisher is 29, which most likely means Cyborg will be older in the film. Also, we don't know how long Vic has been Cyborg, so he could be in self-imposed exile for a couple of years until his father gets kidnapped.

@obarium - isn't Cyborg in college? From the footage, he appears to be a football star.

@JohnCena - Kind of culminates why I felt Ezra is better suited as Wally West than Barry Allen. Wally West in a universe without Barry Allen comes out the youngest hero in the Justice League and requires mentorship.

@KelvTwelve - that kinda [frick]s up the flash timeline though.

Admittedly, I would be pretty outraged if the first speedster wasn't Barry. He acts like Wally, probably because they want their own spidey-type character for audiences to laugh with, but the first speedster has to be Barry Allen. I have a feeling the kid will grow over time into a more traditional character. That seems to be the dceu's thing.
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 7/21/2017, 5:56 AM
@BlackBeltJones - That has to be a flashback because in BvS his origin has already taken place in the past
KelvTwelve
KelvTwelve - 7/21/2017, 8:11 PM
@ALostCause - I suppose so, I just felt most audiences would accept it considering it would separate it from the TV show a little more and because Justice League TAS had already done it.

Although worth it to note, I read the Justice League Mortal script and it has a very interesting take on Wally and Barry in the Justice League.

Shouldn't Batman be suspicious of both Flash and Wonder Woman given his logic in BvS regarding metahumans.
bangarangrufio
bangarangrufio - 7/20/2017, 9:59 PM
@Forthas - He profiled Superman witnessing his fight with Zod as well as his countless acts reported/televised around the world for 18 months. The Senate bombing had no proof at the moment that it WASN'T Superman. Point is, he's changed and was going down a very dark path of dealing in absolutes and nearly killing a hero.

Wonder Woman built a trust with him in BvS including defeating Doomsday.
The Flash is just "a kid" who's an amateur superhero that Lex/Amanda Waller have detailed files of. I'm sure Barry has never killed anyone yet or caused collateral damage like Superman.

Batman is always cautions, but he's trusting and more optimistic now. Playing nice with others.
Beetleborg
Beetleborg - 7/20/2017, 10:04 PM
@Forthas - may be cautious but theres a bigger objective that he needs their help with

@Beetleborg -

I think in the Justice League trailer Gordon says something to the effect that he has learned to work with others, and Batman quips it is temporary.

@Forthas - "It's nice to see you playing well with others again." From the JL Trailer.

With the Nightwing & Batgirl films in development and Jason Todd confirmed as the dead Robin suit hanging in the Batcave, it seems to be a return to form for Batman.

If this movie works out it will be so amazing for all the factions on this message board to come together. I would love to be a DC fan again. I told everyone here how great Batman v. Superman was going to be.
BloodyBed
BloodyBed - 7/21/2017, 3:55 AM
@MarkV - I really hope it does, I also told people bvs was going to be great, that was back when I thought I could actually predict how these movies turn out.

The factions will never come together though, there are marvel fans that have already decided they won't like this, even if they don't realize it. a lot of the marvel fans are rational individuals though, and most of the dceu hate comes from DC fans, so if this movie turns out okay the community will definitely be in a better place.

Wonder Woman helps, but not for everyone. It made me dislike the dceu even more. JL needs to be a winner. That will be a real game changer.
