JUSTICE LEAGUE: Zack Snyder Wanted To Include John Stewart in The Snyder Cut But Warner Bros. Refused

Zack Snyder has confirmed that he hoped to add John Stewart to the Snyder Cut during reshoots, but Warner Bros. requested the filmmaker use a different hero in his place due to their own plans for him.

Be warned, some spoilers for Zack Snyder's Justice League do follow!

When reshoots took place for the Snyder Cut of Justice League last year, Zack Snyder added two new scenes: a Knightmare sequence featuring characters like Batman, The Joker, and Deathstroke, and a meeting between Bruce Wayne and Martian Manhunter.

However, the latter was actually meant to feature a completely different character.

"We shot a version of this scene with Green Lantern, but the studio really fought me and said 'We really don’t want you to do Green Lantern,'" Snyder tells Vanity Fair. "So I made a deal with them, and they let me do this [instead.]" Wait, so it was actually filmed? That obviously leaves us wondering who played the character for Snyder, though it is possible a stand-in was used at the time.

As for which Green Lantern we would have seen, it wasn't Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan. "It would be John Stewart," the filmmaker confirmed. "They were like, ‘We have plans for John Stewart and we want to do our own announcement.' So I said all right, I’ll give you that. So [Martian Manhunter] was the compromise."

When we spoke to Army of the Dead star Omari Hardwick last year (see below), he expressed interest in John Stewart. Could it be that Snyder enlisted him to suit up for the Snyder Cut?

Unfortunately, we may never know...

Just watch it, some thoughts:

I think once the comparisons with Joss is over and the film is judged by it's own merit, there's a good chance of real discussions. It's not exactly bad per se, it's just... nothing, I mostly felt nothing about this film, it's not that good for an average audience and it does not have moments that infuriate people (except maybe the Joker moments) yet satiate those who crave for it like BvS.

It is better than Joss in most aspects, miss the mark on some aspects. But on it's own, it does nothing for me.

In fact I would say the initial critics are very lenient because of a) the whole sad story around the Snyder Cut and the whole movement b) the comparison to Whedon's version and c) potentially angering the fanbase and potentially inviting rabid harrasment (especially for dishonest grifters like Grace who has been riding the Snyder wave really hard).
It's the final critics that would truly tell the worth of the movie. I'm expecting at least 5 to 4 out of 10 from most critics on average.

@Desrow - I kind of felt the same. I honestly don’t see how you can watch Zack’s version and crap on the WB cut because it’s the same movie just with added cyborg and darkseid.

It’s a win for Snyder and his fans but it wasn’t the grand epic I was told it’d be before watching.

@Desrow - For once, I'm in absolute agreement with Zack. I doubt they will do anything with Green Lantern movie wise and they need to.

@Desrow - I think it was brilliant and I'm not a Snyder fanboy at all. I can't stand Man Of Steel and I think BvS is good but flawed. This though was [frick]ing amazing. You mean that Flash scene at the end did nothing for you? Totally different movie and much much much better and I saw Josstice League the other day and enjoyed it.

Wait, so he wanted Green Lantern but got Martian Manhunter instead. Does this mean this was even before he started considering Swanwick as MM?

Anyway, what I take away from this is that there were plans for John (and by extent I presume Hal too). So WB, where is my Green Lantern movie!?

just watched it, here are my thoughts

Hour 2 was the best and made me remember the feeling of Zack snyder's watchmen with that sprawling cast.

Then Hour one was good, but too much extended scenes.

Hour 3 started to loose me a bit. BUt I did love the vs superman fight, easily the best action scene in the film with the wonder woman opening fight.

Hour 4 was bad, the action in justice league against steppenworlf is really mediocre. And the ending that was setting up was stupid. Zack should have made his film finale since he knows he won't follow it up.

Other notes I would add, the music editing was horrifyingly bad, some of the music added really did not fit at all and so much just cam so suddenly. If they had a music editing razzie, this would get it.

So much bloody songs, why is everyone singing all the time???
It felt way too much like a music video at times.
Zack used way too much slow mo, I mean it's a 4 hour movie so we really felt it in this case.
I feel flash was half decent, sometimes annoying like with that hot dog, sometimes great like with his father.
I like superman in this film the most, but I dislike Ben affleck in this one, it feels lihe he's much less into his performance than he was in BVS.

This movie is definitely much better than the joss whedon one but I definitely understand the changes since how the hell do you release a 4 hour film in cinema. It's a very interesting experiment but I don't think i'll rewatch it.
i think my rating would be 3 stars and it would go between age of ultron and iron man 2 in quality.

Now hoping next for some great cinema with the batman.

@calino2212 - I'm not one to gives movies a specific score, but I think my ranking wouldn't differ a lot from yours.

Only difference is I'd probably put Justice League 17 above BvS
