Mark Millar Comments On Jim Carrey Joining The Cast Of KICK-ASS 2 As 'Colonel Stars'

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Jim Carrey has joined the cast of Kick-Ass 2 - based on the series by writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr. - as 'Colonel Stars' (more details on that can be found HERE). This is obviously a major addition to the already impressive cast and should result in a pretty major box office boost for the Jeff Wadlow helmed follow-up to Matthew Vaughn's 2010 movie due to the Carrey's dedicated fanbase. Below is a statement issued by Mark Millar on the Millarworld Forums in which he shares his thought on the casting of the actor and teases plenty of other exciting announcements in the near future.

Okay, now THIS is very exciting.

Matthew Vaughn, Jeff Wadlow and I did a conference call with Jim a couple of weeks back and we've been itching to talk about this ever since because the energy Jim's going to bring to Colonel Stars has me buzzing as much as Nic Cage with Big Daddy. You have to remember that Big Daddy's role before Cage came on was a much more straightforward bad-ass. It was Nic who gave him that Adam West delivery and brought this incredible warmth to the character, especially with regard to Mindy.

Nic is really good friends with Jim Carrey and it's well known to everyone that Jim loved the first movie. In fact, I think he had lunch with Vaughn the day before that Conan O'Brien kick-Ass/ Superman duet. So we've been talking very informally about this for a little over two years now. We didn't quite know what Jim was going to be doing in the sequel, but the entire team loves him to bits and I've been a fan since I first saw him. I remember reading an interview with Spielberg, a great one back in Empire for a JAws anniversary, where he was saying that Jim would be his choice for Chief Brodie were he shooting Jaws now. He said he could see the brilliant dramatic range Jim had as well as the comedy people knew him for at that time. For all these reasons, combined with the conversation we had with him on the phone, I'm so genuinely excited about this. I can't wait to see what he does once the cameras are on.

So as you can see from the online reports there's a Hell of a cast shaping up here. The movie runs from Hit-Girl #1 to Kick-Ass 2 #7 and fans of the comic will know that the part of Uncle Ralphie is still to be announced. He's the big-bad from the Hit-Girl series and you, my friends, are in for a treat.

But this is all incredibly cool. Millarworld has had two movies released so far and several in various stages of production right now (another one starts shooting in the New Year). But I think this is the closest to starstruck I've been on anything so far. LOVE Jim Carrey. Can't wait to meet him at Pinewood.

Mark Millar is still an absolute knob, IMHO. It seems like every bit of movie "news" that leaves his mouth is absolute bullshit. Matthew Vaughn is the reason the Kick Ass movie worked, and Mark has just been milking his relationship with Matthew for all it's worth.

Santoanderson I totally agree. The guy basically only takes concepts other people have already made and says "yeah but what if i made it really dark and edgy?"

I dont understand why so many of you hate Millar? His work is top notch. Sure theres a bit too much swearing sometimes but its still bigger than life. He goes all out and thats a plus!

Sorry I'm not impressed, never was. I think he's a good actor, but his comedy always annoyed me something fierce. I hope he plays this part straight otherwise to me it's a downer

How is there a Hit Girl spinoff when she was the protagonist of the movie anyways?

God I hate this movie. There I said it.

Has nobody else picked up on the fact that he said a Millarworld movie will start shooting in the new year? Kick Ass 2 starts later this year so what might the other one be? It better be Nemesis.

Anyone who says Mark Millar isn't talented as a writer is an ass. The Ultimates led to the Avengers movie. And there wouldn't be a kick ass movie with out his story, so anyone saying The movie was successful due to Vaugnh doesn't have a clue. You guys are just talentless haters jealous of this guys success. I may not like all his work ( Civil War) but I applaud his success.

millar has gone movie mad sadly and his writing will suffer but that aside kickass 2 has become an over wieght bloated out by hasbeen stars and wanna be superstars that it has lost the plot.
kick ass worked becouse it was fresh clever and outrageious and with next to no big names involved except mr cage ofcourse.
it worked this sequal i fear has become a bloated work that will either sink under its own wieght or surpass expectation sadly i tend to think the sinking since carrey is involved.

Splenda, you couldn't be more wrong about Old Man Logan.

I have gotten at least 5 people into reading comics by giving them that story.

Nemesis was also great. The ending I didnt care so much for but the ride there made up for it.

Kick Ass 1 was great. I will agree that Kick Ass 2 was probably the worst comic series I have ever read.
