Where Will the Marvel Cinematic Universe be Post Avengers 4?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond Avengers 4! I wanted to start a thread that can hopefully pull all these ideas together to rouse some excitement for the future of this ever expanding universe.

2018 will mark the 10 year anniversary of the MCU and the culmination of a very epic saga that all started with Iron Man back in 2008. Within that time we have been able to witness some of the greatest stories told for some of our favorite heroes, and looking beyond Avengers 4 we begin to see a new saga take shape.

I will also begin by acknowledging that although we do not yet know what the outcomes will be story wise for the next few installments before Avengers 4, we can already surmise an idea of where the storylines will go based on the information we have been given already.

So lets begin!

Avengers 4 Possible Outcomes.

We can assume that the heroes or at least those remaining will have defeated Thanos and his Black Order by the end, but at what cost and will Thanos still be alive?  This leads me to Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the film that James Gunn has stated will start off a very cosmic Phase 4 story line. I think we can be seeing the possible beginning of The Infinity Watch!

With the inclusion of Adam Warlock to the fray of our lovable band of space misfits I would not doubt that we may just see this come together with a new team of Guardians as well. With characters like Quasar, Nova and many others that have yet to make their appearance this would be an awesome way of forming the team that will safe guard the infinity stones from another possible threat like Thanos.

Captain Marvel and The Skrulls

With the information that we have seen from Comic Con and the story description for the coming film as well, I think our earth bound heroes will be facing a greater threat with the Skrulls invasion. Some would say it could be a retread of the Hydra storyline of Shields infiltration but it would be exciting trying to figure out who the real heroes are from the imposters. And this can lead to questions of where the real versions of those characters have been this whole time. This is also something that can leave a lasting effect throughout the next installments of movies like Spider-Man 2, Ant-Man & Wasp, Black Panther and Captain America. Some suggestions I have seen for possible imposters are Hawkeye, Nick Fury, or  Maria Hill. I feel like someone like Maria Hill would be a high possibility since her character has been in the background during most of these major events.  She can be using her positions in Shield and as an Avengers liaison to gather information for a much wider invasion down the line. it will be interesting to see where Captain Marvel's story leaves us at and if some of these ideas may come true.

Now bear with me on this one but... Fantastic 4 / Silver Surfer/ Galactus / Kang / Annihilus

Okay now before anyone tars and feathers me into hell for the mere mention of any of these names hear me out.

Yes it has been a dream for many fans to see even a hint of any of these characters within the MCU. There were even times when we thought it may actually happen like in GotG Vol. 2 with the inclusion of The Watchers, but then we get the same statements from directors and producers saying that we have partial rights and we are left to pick up the broken tattered pieces of our fanboy hearts.
I still hold out hope that we will one day see Feige walk to a podium and just gaze into a crowd of onlookers and say just three words... Fantastic 4 is back! And then leave the podium as the crowd erupts into applause and wept tears of joy.

The sheer amount of stories that could come from such an announcement would warrant its very own singular phase of films to be honest, and although it has been shot down as rumors I feel it is just a matter of time before this happens given the state of the property now with Fox.  We can only hope!!!

These are just some of the ideas that I have seen amongst others and myself included but I want to get the discussion rolling. What do you all think the possibilities can be for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Give me your thoughts below!

i am probably wrong, but i thought Feige said in an interview, that they were going to keep it more focused type stories after the grandeur of Avengers 4.

Nothing Universe shattering.
Good article though!

@Beren - Yes I do remember him stating that also. I think he said they would be more contained sagas moving forward, so something like a Secret Invasion storyline would see a conclusion within a few films rather than multiple trilogies.

@WYLEEJAY - Lol thanks! Yeah I haven't submitted an editorial since 2013 so I wanted to stretch my fingers. I may do a DCEU one as well.

I'm really wishing for New Avengers. It's the story that got me into the Avengers. Before that I was mostly Spider-Man and X men. So to have almost all my favorites on one team hooked me. But since Wolverine is off the table, and the other half of the team is on Netflix, nows probably not the time. In a couple years after phase three ends though? Who would be on the team?

@WYLEEJAY - The new Avengers in my mind would be Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Wasp, Spider-Man, Falcon and Bucky taking up the Captain America mantle. Scarlet Witch and Vision may be in there too if they make it out of Avengers 4.
