Continuing on from my original articles about Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War having 2 post-credits scenes and the different post-credits scenes in Captain America: The First Avenger, Ant-Man(2015) and Doctor Strange, I decided to make an article about how things would've been different if the very first 5 Marvel Cinematic Universe films had 2 post-credits scenes instead of one.
If I worked at Marvel, I'd have a mid-credits scene for the first 2 Iron Man films, Thor 1 and Captain America: The First Avenger and a post-credits scene at the very end of the Incredible Hulk because Louis Leterrrier orignally planned a post-credits scene in Incredible Hulk showing Emil Blonsky(now known as the Abomination) turned back into human, imprisoned in a containment box. The specific thing about these films is they were not designed to have 2 post-credits scenes as it would spoil the then unknown MCU. But perhaps, if they did, they would foreshadow future films from the beginning such as The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: The First Avenger.
I believe they would've also foreshadowed Captain America: The First Avenger and The Incredible Hulk(which was released after Iron Man 1) as they never got any build up until the films came out on June 2008 and July 2011. So I decided to create these post-credits scenes that one of them would've had no words, no explaination or overt imagery to explain. As for the mid-credits scene for Thor(2011), it would've been a comedic scene. As for the Incredible Hulk, they would've gotten to explain how Emil Blonsky was recruited into the Hulkbusters to capture Bruce Banner.
Iron Man(2008): Foreshadowing the Incredible Hulk, Emil Blonsky(Tim Roth) gets recruited to the Hulkbusters Unit in the United State Army and he is informed of a “scientist-turned fugitive” who has been on the run for 5 years. And Blonsky says catching him would be his pleasure since he wants to do anything to relive his glory days. The scene ends with Bruce Banner’s name on a “most wanted poster”.
The Incredible Hulk: Foreshadowing Captain America: The First Avenger, Phil Coulson(Clark Gregg) and Nick Fury(Samuel L. Jackson) dressed in winter gear are in the Arctic as a crew of SHIELD agents on the sheets of ice that are on the ground beneath them drill holes and fix cables to pitons. Agent Coulson asks, "Sir, how do we know it's here?" The camara cuts to Fury, arms crossed and standing in the door of the helicopter as he replies "I just have a hunch". As a crew of grunts on the sheets of ice that are the ground beneath them, a man signals to go up and just as he does, two choppers recover a gigantic block of ice from the ground. As the ice slowly raises into the air, the classic shape of a shield as well as the silhouette of a man inside the ice(Captain America) is seen.
Iron Man 2: Foreshadowing Iron Man 3, Senator Stern and James Rhodes discuss with the president about building a “Patriot suit” to go on dangerous fights with super villains under the government’s service. The president agrees with the idea and says the world is changing and more heroes may come out of the woodwork very soon. And Rhodey says “They’re already coming out of the woodwork.”.
Thor (2011): In the Asgardian hallways, Fandral (Josh Dallas) impresses a couple of Asgardian women by telling of his battle with the Destroyer and then how Thor met the Warriors Three and their first adventures together, laughing with the women as Sif looks onward with a smirk smile.
Captain America: The First Avenger: Foreshadowing Thor: The Dark World,a one minute, silent scene as pictures of strange astrophycial events set during ancient times are being seen on the table as Jane Foster(Natalie Portman) writes that she will find a way to create a wormhole to reunite with Thor in Asgard.
All of these scenes would've further explained things, foreshadowed sequels and introduced characters previously unintroduced into the MCU before their debut film. It would've also shown more about how S.H.I.E.L.D found Captain America's frozen body in the Arctic.
What do you think of Marvel having mid-credits scenes from the beginning?
