Marvel Studios May Begin Developing Stories For Fox's Marvel Characters Within The First Six Months Of 2019
2018 is nearly over, and with the arrival of 2019 comes new possibilities for Marvel Studios, as Kevin Feige expects to develop stories for Fox's various Marvel characters soon. More details past the jump.
Between grossing over $4 billion and celebrating its 10-year anniversary, 2018 has proven to be a big year for Marvel - but just because the year is coming to a close doesn't mean things will be dying down for the studio. On the contrary, with the looming release of Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame and the impending Disney/Fox merger, 2019 may prove to be an even bigger year for Marvel Studios.
That said, even with a report from a few months ago, as well as a new one from NBC News suggesting the deal may be closed in January, we still have no exact date for when the studio can officially begin developing stories for Fox's Marvel properties.
However, in the 100th episode of Playback with Kris Tapley, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige explained that he expects to get a hold of Fox's characters within the first half of 2019.
"No, not yet, but we’ve been told it’s looking very, very good and could happen in the first six months of next year … The notion of the characters that had previously been under a Fox agreement coming back is great. It’s nice when a company that created all these characters can have access to all those characters. It’s unusual not to; Marvel’s been in a unique position to not have access to those characters for a long time … But in terms of actually thinking about it and actually planning things, we haven’t started that yet."
Of course, just because Feige will likely get the go-ahead to use Fox's Marvel characters in the near future, we probably shouldn't expect to see these heroes (or villains) appear on the big screen anytime soon, as Marvel and Feige have already set their schedule of films until at least 2020.
