Columbia has announced a May 25, 2012 release for the film to be directed, in 3D, by Barry Sonnenfeld. Deals are currently being negotiated with Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.

"The project has been in the prep stage for some time," notes Deadline, "but didn't become real until Smith chose it over several 'next film' candidates. His decision to put on the sunglasses and dark suit gives Sony a killer 2012: the studio previously set a July 3, 2012 release date for its Spider-Man relaunch, which also will be shot in 3D. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald return as MIB3 producers, and Steven Spielberg will be executive producer.

"... The film will use a time travel element that moves the action from contemporary back to 1969. Brolin will play the younger version of Jones's Agent Kay character."

I don't have high hopes for this movie. The first one was entertaining. The second one felt forced. The third one...ugh.

Bigby: I was about to say the same thing.

It does help to have the original cast returning. I feel like I should be fair and see where they're going with this thing before commenting much further.

Cant say I care too much about this movie but it could be good fun so I'll give it a chance especially as Smith and Jones will be coming back! :)

The 3D thing could be cool with this film, seems like an appropriate environment to use the effect. Should be an entertaining movie.

time travel is a cruch too often used by shows and movies to try to fill in story when they run out of places to go.. oh well.. here's hoping they do it right..

I say no to 3D. For me 3D should only be used for cartoons, I think it takes away from the movie otherwise.

I think it's better to have one made, than none at all. Besides, if it ends up sucking cork, it will give us something to rip apart.
