John Arturo - When did you start collecting and how did you get into the hobby?
WOLVERINEDECADE - I got into collecting comic books when I was in High School. Some of my classmates are FilAms (Filipino-Americans) who collect comic books. That's my first exposure to comic books. By that time, despite my tight budget, I managed to buy comics monthly. The very first comic book that I bought was Wolverine #89, where Wolverine teams-up with Ghost Rider to take down Ogun.
John Arturo - I see you have a few Gundams in your collection. Do you custom paint those or just piece together from the box and put on the shelf?
WOLVERINEDECADE - I don't normally custom paint them, I just paint the parts where it is needed, because some stickers won't do any good. The best part of collecting Gundam is putting them together and placing them on the shelf, having them pose in as many action poses as possible.
John Arturo - Do you collect anything else?
WOLVERINEDECADE - Yes. Even before I came across comic books, I already had some Marvel trading cards when I was in 4th grade, which was my first encounter with the Marvel Superheroes. Then I started buying action figures, posters, and eventually, I learned how to draw because of my exposure to Marvel. I also collect some trade paperbacks and t-shirts. Also part of my collection are Gundam model kits and action figures.
John Arturo - What is your favorite collectibles company?
WOLVERINEDECADE - I don't really have a favorite collectibles company, but I like the Marvel Legends series. I wish Toy Biz would come back. Any collectibles company will do as long as its a Marvel Comics characters.
John Arturo - What is your favorite part of collecting?
WOLVERINEDECADE - For me it is seeing what you have been up to all those years. I always say to my friends that my whole comic book collection is my treasure, because it almost took up not only my weekly allowance, but also my childhood and my adolescent years. My collection is my investment. If only I hadn't been into comic book collecting, I would've had so much money right now. But I have no regrets. This is what I love.
John Arturo - What is the key thing you look for in an item you want to add to your collection?
WOLVERINEDECADE - When it comes to comics, it would surely be a Marvel comic. As for toys and action figures, I look for the details and articulation. I also consider how would they look on my shelf.
John Arturo - What is your favorite movie?
WOLVERINEDECADE - I have to say all Marvel movies are my favorite. I have been a Marvel fan since birth, even now, I still get chills from watching a Marvel movie. If I have to choose a single movie, I guess it would be between Spider-Man 2 and X-Men 2.
John Arturo - What is your favorite piece from your collection?
WOLVERINEDECADE - That's a tough question... but I guess it would have to be the Marvel Chronicle, that big book containing the history of Marvel Comics, and I guess my copy of X-Men #1 (the one with the gate fold cover) by Chris Claremont & Jim Lee.
John Arturo - What are some items you are most looking forward to adding to your collection?
WOLVERINEDECADE - I'm looking forward to having busts and statues of Marvel Heroes, maybe from Bowen designs or Kotobukiya. I've been dying to purchase some of those.
John Arturo - Finally, what is your favorite aspect of ComicBookMovie.com?
WOLVERINEDECADE - It's the community. I have never been to any site before that speaks my language when it comes to my desire & passion for comics and comic book movies until I came across ComicBookMovie.com. This is one of the sites that I search every time I am on the Internet. All the news I need is already here. Even the comments section are hard to ignore, the comments are enough to entertain me as much as the article itself.. I won't let the day end without me signing in to CBM.com.
Here are a few drawings from WOLVERINEDECADE that he wants to share as well.
