MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS On Track To To Top $1 Billion Worldwide By Next Weekend

Believe it or not, analysts now have Marvel's The Avengers pegged as breaking the $1 billion milestone as early as next Sunday. Hit the jump for details on what the film will need to do in order to make that record amount in just three weeks of release.

Forbes predicts that Marvel's The Avengers will top an incredible $1 billion by the end of next weekend. At the very least, it's expected to have no trouble reaching $900 million by Sunday, although less conservative estimates have it on course for much more. Earlier today, it was revealed that the superhero ensemble has grossed $702 million worldwide, and after taking an additional $18.9 yesterday, it only needs to make half of that per day for the rest of the week and it will have still amassed a whopping $100 million domestically by close of business on Sunday. All it then needs to do is earn a further $98 million internationally (by no means a difficult feat for the critically acclaimed blockbuster) and it is guaranteed to hit the $900 million mark mentioned above. However, based on its performance thus far, it's far more likely that it WILL hit $1 billion, simply by earning an additional $50 million domestically and overseas. Considering it made a good $40 - $50 million more than was initially predicted this past weekend, this doesn't seem at all hard to believe. What do you think? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

As long as they keep making quality films that are true to their comic book roots while showing non-comic book fans what makes these characters and their trials and tribulations so popular and enduring, I will continue to throw my money at them.

Picutre this, avatar was released without being shot in 3d and that whole fad never existed. Avatar was a premature insectoid that only came to fruition because of stereoscopic foolery. How original was that movie again? mhhhm. This movie on the other hand...

I know I am not alone in watching this movie put up the numbers - going to see it again this weekend for my 3rd time. Move is awesome - everything I could ask for in an Avengers film.

On a side note:
Glad to see Intruder is back - these marvel articles have been missing something lately
