BEWARE THE BATMAN Season 1 Episode 14 "Darkness"

Since Beware The Batman was put on an extended hiatus after airing of only the first 11 episodes of the show's 26 episode season, many speculated that the show would be cancelled before it's season could even be completed (this rumour was especially plausible considering the network's recent cancellation of Young Justice and Green Lantern). However, this proved to not be the case as Episodes 12 and 13 were released on a Blu-Ray collection and Cartoon Network's announcement that Beware The Batman would be moving to their Toonami block.

After several weeks of re-runs, we now get our first new episode, Season 1 Episode 14 titled Darkness. Here's the official description:

Batman makes an unlikely alliance with Silver Monkey to escape from the League of Assassins. Meanwhile, Katana, Alfred, Lieutenant Gordon, and Barbara Gordon take action as Ra's Al Ghul's attempts to cleanse the city during the blackout has left it terrorized by the Ghost and other criminals.

Beware The Batman Season 1 Episode 14 airs late tonight on Cartoon Network's Toonami block.

Same. Already watched it. One of my favorite Batman shows to date. On par with Batman: TAS IMO. All those people who complained about the designs should really give it a shot. It's like GL TAS where it takes a few episodes to get into, but when you do, oh boy does it get good. I really hope it either gets another season or DC makes more shows in this style to lead into a JL show.

Might try this show out. Watched one episode that kind of centered around Katana and it SUUUCCCKKEEEDD. But, if it's "On par with Batman: TAS" then I'll give it another go.

I wish this would have been picked up for another season, it was a different take but I thought they kept the essence of Batman, and I liked the look and feel of the show

@BatfleckReturns

Nice, Bruce looks good!! Any idea if he's in Gotham or Metropolis in those pics?

@DrKinsolving

I'm pretty sure it is Metropolis since there seems to be quite a bit of destruction in that scene. My guess is that it's showing Bruce's perspective of the Superman/Zod fight.

@GuardianAngel

That's exactly what I was thinking too, although, if that's the case, I wonder why he's not combat ready and dressed as Batman? I seriously can't wait to hear more about that movie

@DrKinsolving

Well no one prepared for when the world engine landed so I'm guessing Bruce just so happened to be in Metropolis on a meeting or something and sprang into action. Plus the rumor is he's older or even retired so maybe he just doesn't have the suit on him.

While the episode is available digitally and has leaked online, it's not a repeat. Also, last saturday night at 2/1c they played "Fall" which is the 13th episode.

No comic book-based cartoon is on par with Batman: TAS. I contest that the best comic book-based movie of all time is Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, edging out The Dark Knight and The Avengers. Beware the Batman isn't bad, though, but I wouldn't praise it as highly as others on here.

"On par with Batman: TAS"

Yes, while it is a new take on Batman, the show retains the core aspects of the cgaracter and manages to tell amazing stories through that. Batman: TAS had 3 seasons to better itslef and it was great, but the first few episodes of that show weren't the greatest. If you disagree, I highly recommend giving the show a chance before dismissing it. The only way to enjoy it is to accept it for what it is.

I'm gonna have to watch the rest of the episodes, but I didn't mind what I saw. Don't know why DC pulled the plug.

@bluedude

I understand. For many people, the Bruce Timm Batman is their definitive Batman and is often used as the Batman in which all other Batmen are compared to. I just really like it when people put a new spin on the character and I felt that this show nailed that. Plus I feel the use of CG is a great way to give the show the more tangible feel that live action has, without being limited by the budget.

"on par with Batman: TAS"

I've watched all the episodes Of BTB and it doesn't even come close to catching the mood or aura of Gotham.city feels empty most of the time.Its more on par with MTVs spider-man then TAS.although i do commend them for using different villains to try and not tread familiar water but it fell flat for me in the end

Really? I hope he's not retired, I hope they don't go that route....

I watched the first, idk, 5-6 episodes back when the show was starting and I can't say that I wasn't intrigued and kinda positively surprised by the storytelling and the new take on things (i.e. the use of Katana).

But damn, those visuals were ultimately the reason why I didn't bother to continue. It just has the typical TV CG-animation look and feel to it - it looks cheap, sterile and all in all just plain bad.

So far there's been only one show over the last years with similar technology that managed to win me over, and that was the latest take on the Turtles. There was a lot I didn't like about the visuals, but at least they managed to make the Turtles themselves look good.

Ah well, I guess I might give 'Beware' another chance sometime later this year.
