COMICS: Marvel To Reboot In 2015? "Time Runs Out" Teases the Future

Talk has turned to the possibility of a Marvel relaunch as a result of Jonathan Hickman's work on Avengers, Infinity and more in the past few years. Time is running out for Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and, with planets set to collide, we may be in a new world next year...

Though DC took the reboot approach to their complicating continuity, Marvel has stuck to their guns and kept their sliding timeline. But that may change soon, with rumours sirculating that the publisher will start over. At Diamond’s Retailer Summit in Las Vegas, it was revealed that Jonathan Hickman's Avengers #35 and New Avengers #24 will jump ahead eight months this September, akin to DC's Futures End event in the same month. Hickman's Avengers title has been focusing on the threat of incursions and other realities forging into ours, with either one world facing the destruction or both perishing. "Time Runs Out sees everything Jonathan Hickman has been building towards comes to a close and will affect the entire Marvel company across the board, forcing them to do something the company has never done in its 75 years."

The popular opinion among retailers at the event was reboot, and if this teaser image is anything to go by, the current Marvel Universe may be no more. What do you think? Will our planet survive, or will we be in an all-new world next May? The presentation said to expect reveals in the coming weeks, so keep it here at ComicBookMovie.com for the latest on a possible relaunch.

After this Original Sin thing, have The Watcher or some other celestial being wipe everyone's minds and go back in the past. Solved.

The new 52 reboot was at least 3rd time DC has done some continuity house cleaning, infinite Crisis on Infinite Earths and Zero Hour previous. Marvel hasn't really ever done it before, unless you count Heroes Reborn. I'm sure it can cause some headaches for the editors and writers. Even if its not a universe reboot, this could be a way to tighten up the universe and its timeline to a streamlined version more in keeping with their creative direction.

It's NOT a reboot. If you've been READING these books you'd know that refers to the Incursion story going on.

What's the point!?! They've been doing Marvel NOW for the last two years which I thought was the substitute for a reboot. Hopefully this isn't true.

I'd be open to it at this point. The Marvel Universe is convoluted as [frick] and has just blurred into a mess of huge events

Also, it has to deal with the Time Gem. They showed that at the end of the last Avengers.

Normally I would object but seeing how incredibly convoluted the X-men and Avengers continuities are and the Ultimate Universe no longer being interesting I wouldn't mind a reebot. Just take time and take note of DC´s mistakes.

I wish that Marvel DID Reboot, but knowing them they'll just muddle their shitty continuity even more and fans like SageMode will lap it up.

Marvel needs it, loathe as I am to admit it. DC'S done it what, three times, and the still needed new fiddy-two? Idk, man, let's just hope it's not some gimmick.

Ummmm...okay.

Not the best idea in the world, but it could turn out interesting. I'll wait and see.

This would be too good to be true.

Though I doubt a reboot would please me. Only way I see it working is if they remake some classics with new plot points and some classic events.

A reboot would be amazing.

Reboots dont affect the current stories that are out, we can still go back and enjoy those! It's a miracle that I've managed to keep up with X-Men.

it's interesting to see how both franchises have gone through either a reboot of their timeline or come on with some complex reasoning behind a retcon... but to me, I'd like them to create more and more original storylines that are worthy of being turned into a movie. DC has been on a streak as of late and I'd love to see Marvel hit their mark with a newer storyline worthy of the media limelight... just my opinion...

I guess comic books are storylines for potential movies nowadays. All they have to do is reboot every 3-5 years and completely change the universe.

I haven't read the current comics for a few years, but I don't see how this is means it's a New 52-style reboot. House of M and Heroes Reborn were both "reboots" that snapped back pretty damn quick.

the only problem i have with this is im worried that if they reboot everything then it will all be made to tie in/be influenced by the MCU.

The MCU is fantastic. That wouldn't be a bad thing.

the MCU is fantastic but i dont want a rebooted universe to evolve around it, i want it to be it's own thing like the current universe is. i dont mind f they take some inspiration but i dont want it to basically be the MCU in comic format.

I guess a universal reboot would be justified due to the timestream literally being broken and every Earth in the multiverse dying.
marvel72

so marvel is telling a story that is set 8 months future? wow they've never done that before it must be a reboot.

if some of you actually read some comics you would know this arc as been going on since issue 1 of new avengers.
