With Spider-Man's forthcoming movie outing hitting theaters this July, one Spider-Fan to the other has to wonder how our webbed marvel will hold up against this year's competition.Ten years ago the non-mutant superhero wouldn't even have to worry about other comic films stealing his lunch money like Flash Thompson on Tuesday's. This year we have Marvel's The Avengers and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, which are both big events in themselves, which is the whole reason i'm writing this editorial in the first place. My greatest fear could potentially come to fruition if TASM underperforms at the box office. If it does i just may go silent for the whole Summer. It's just that most of us are uncertain of how the general public will react to the new faces, the somewhat unknown villain and the "updated costume".Now anyone whose given a damn about the reboot has been saying the same basic things about it.Either they complain about Andrew Garfield's hair, the silver-toed shoes, and finally the infamous red-stripe/addidas pants/spider-pants.So those are my anxieties about TASM what are yours?

So basically what you're saying is I should support ASM just so you don't go silent for the rest of the summer?

I read this over a few times and you don't give any other reasons why you think we should support it.

have carnage be the main villain in the film and then I'll support it at the box office.... because I'll just wait for the DVD or when it has been pirated...

Perhaps i should have been clearer on my intentions, Kalel219 you should go see it because the very cinematic future of our favorite web-slinger hangs in the balance. Oh and sorry this is my very first editorial my future ones will be better and more thorough in the approach.

@Wedontdie yeah, after Spider-Man 3, I doubt we will see Carnage done any time soon.

I was watching Sam Rami's first Spiderman on tv a few days ago, and maybe it's just that I'm much older now, but that movie just doesn't hold up like it did when it first came out. I was barely able to watch the whole thing. I hadn't watched it in a while, but somehow I never noticed how terrible Kirsten Dunst was in that movie. James Franco was awful too. Toby was ok. Dafoe was ok too... for an evil power ranger.

Anyways, my point is that altogether the movie just wasn't that good, but it got great reviews when it came out and was extremely successful financially. TAS doesn't have the advantage that Sam Rami's did because it's not as fresh as it was back then. It might not have the box office success the original did. But as far as being a good movie I think that it can't be any worse than the first Spiderman. Or the third for that matter. Worst case scenario I'd say it becomes the second best Spiderman movie ever made.

It's SPIDERMAN in real 3D; don't worry, it'll do fine. Just don't expect a record breaking opening weeknend; it will make it's massive BO in a slow grind.
