How DC should introduce Green Lantern and Flash in the DCCU

With the recent Green Lantern film failure and The Flash's new television series, introducing the two icons into DC's new shared universe won't be straight forward

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice confirms what everyone already thought.  There will be a Justice League Movie and shared cinematic universe.  With that in mind, DC is most likely going to introduce Green Lantern and Flash.  This could be difficult though, because The Flash is getting his own television series and Ryan Reynold’s Green Lantern film is still fresh in people’s mind in a bad way.  I think a way DC could navigate through this obstacle is by introducing a different Green Lantern and a different Flash: John Stewart and Wally West.  I understand that there are other Green Lanterns and Flashes to choose from, but I think these two might be DC’s best option to bring their iconic characters to the big screen.  Bart Allen is The Flash in the upcoming series, and I think some casual movie fans might be confused as to why there are two of the same characters living separate lives.  Especially considering a show like Agents of SHEILD is able to stay in the same continuity as its film counterparts.  With Green Lantern, I think John Stewart is the second most popular GL to Hal Jordan(I’ve had many friends ask me why GL isn’t black in Mortal Kombat vs DC and Injustice) due to his presence in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, so he could be a viable option while differentiating this iteration with Ryan Reynold’s.  Some have argued that John Stewart is a boring character, but I think if the screenwriters characterize him similarly to the way Bruce Timm and Dwayne McDuffie did in the animated series, he’d be great.  My casting recommendation for the two characters would be Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine.

It's really straightforward though. Make your movie independent of The Flash series and Green Lantern and trust that this notion that casual viewers are sub-humanly retarded is false.

That being said, I do think a John Stewart/Wally West team up would be interesting. Ejiofor and Pine are nice choices but I doubt they would happen.

Since we are getting a Flash TV series with Barry Allen and with it being rumored that Green Lantern will show up on the show, and if it's true it will most likely be Hal Jordan since Ferris Air was teased in the flash trailer, they should use Wally West and John Stewart to switch things up.

Gustin would be fine as Barry Allen/Flash in any movies. (Oh, and it is Barry, not Bart.) As for GL, if you have to have him, I think you could either have John Stewart, or just a different actor playing Hal Jordan. Audiences are used to different actors playing the same character.

I don't know why people always talk about GL being fresh in people's minds. NO ONE, BUT US SAW IT! The majority of the general audience didn't even see it.

@Lhornbk I agree that Gustin would be great but they've stated several times that the TV and movie universes are not connected. I also agree with @phantom that Wally should be the flash for several reasons, the most important being differenciating from the tv version. Barry is also too much of a "good guy" and Wally would be a great comic foil as well as being the flawed character of the group. John Stewart, not so much. In the right hands, I think Hal can be re-interpreted and should be the GL in the series.

How about this: "Hi. My name is Green Lantern and I have powers because of my ring. It creates anything I think of. What's your name?"

"Why hello to you to. My name is Flash and I can run really fast. Do you like my red outfit?"

"Yes I do. Cool sneakers. Those lightning bolts on the side of your head are pretty cool. Do you have any weaknesses? Mine's the color yellow and being scared."

".......wuss!"

If the DCCU goes with Wally West, I would love to see Blitz and Ignition adapted or elements from those story arcs used.

I personally would prefer to see Hal and Barry over John and Wally. I see no reason you can't have someone playing Barry on the small screen and another person on the big screen. It has happened before. Superman Returns was at the movies when Smallville was on tv.

Now here's the one thing I am wondering about seeing as it looks like the Justice League movie would be the New52 way. Will Wally West be black in this too? If so then you would have a black Flash, a black Green Lantern and Cyborg. I just don't see Hollywood doing that. The reason why is because most times black people get the shaft in these kinds of movies. I could see John in the film though just not Wally.

So if they go with Wally West in the DCCU, would he be the pre-New 52 Wally or the New 52 Wally?

Why do people think the casual audience is as stupid as we make them out to be?

Maybe introduce the two heroes in Batman vs Superman as cameos? The general audience would know about Green Lantern due to the film that debut in 2011 and now the general audience is going to know about The Flash, i just don't think we should underestimate the general audience.

They're gonna be separate.
If the Gotham TV show can be separate from the movies for the audience to realise that then so can the TV show.

And I'm glad.
having the Flash tv show connect to the movie wouldn't be great, not to mention the cast difference in tv look of CGI (although the effects look great on the TV show) and fact the show won't be able to have much freedom at all. Also, I don't think Gustin could carry (or co-carry) his own movie.

@ComicBookConnections

I did and he's a great choice for Barry in the show, when he was announced as one of the potential candidates I liked the choice! but still, I think he's great for television.

That is kind of tricky with Flash having his own TV Series now. Hmmm in regards to GL it would have to be Hal Jordan, especially if this rumor of a Flash/Green Lantern team up movie is true. They have really good chemistry in the comics.

I really wish Nathan Fillion would do GL. I know he's kind of old, but the dude was BORN to play GL. I mean he's even done the voice of GL in some of the animated movies. Plus he can definitely carry his own movie. Unless WB decides to take a risk by keeping Reynolds and pretending like the GL movie never happened lol

@CherryBomb

Gotham is a prequel series, so of course it would have to be separate from the movies.

@Stingy

No, I mean they if audiences can differentiate between the Batman show and the hugely popular Nolan movies then they can differentiate between a Flash tv show and a Flash movie being separate.
