Marvel May Release 3-4 Movies A Year - Could MS. MARVEL & PLANET HULK Be Among Them?

Perhaps not totally unexpectedly, Marvel head Kevin Feige has confirmed that the studio could well double their movie output moving forward. Could we see that Planet Hulk flick after all? Badass Digest seem to think it could be on the cards..

Is there such a thing as too much Marvel? In an interview with Badass Digest, Kevin Feige has revealed that -- depending on how their movie slates hold up over the next few years -- we could eventually see the studio release as many as four CBMs annually.

"I think television is filling some of that now, in terms of bringing out more product. That’s certainly the idea with the Netflix shows. But I don’t know that we will necessarily say “Okay, we’re now moving strategically to three a year, now we’re moving to four a year.” What I think is more likely - if [knocks on wood-like table] the next group of movies work and people want to see additional stories - we’ll have too many franchises and you can’t do one of each franchise every two or three years. We’d have to move to three a year, but that would have to be a natural move if it were to occur. We’d have a [script] draft, we’d have a filmmaker, we’d have a character the audience wants to see - let’s slot in a place for a third one. Or a fourth one.

But it’s hard enough to deliver two quality, hopefully bar-raising movies a year."

Here's what we know is coming for certain: We have Guardians of the Galaxy in August, Avengers: Age of Ultron in May 2015, and Ant-Man in July 2015. Then in 2016 we'll have the Captain America threequel in May and a mystery film (very likely Doctor Strange) in July. What else could follow them? Well, this may just be total speculation but Badass Digest reckon that, despite reports to the contrary, the studio are very keen on getting a Ms. Marvel movie off the ground; and, they also mention that Planet Hulk movie that was rumored quite some time ago -- but seem to think that would actually be a Guardians Of The Galaxy sequel, which would see the space adventurers team up with the Green Goliath. As I said, they may just be taking an educated guess on all of that, but it certainly doesn't sound too unreasonable to me. Thoughts?

Sounds good. But they could run into some huge ass walls if they do something like this.

[frick]ing finally. Waiting 6 months between films is too much.

That would be a maximum of 3 months between Mavel CBMs! Plus the other studio's films inbetween

Idk how I feel about this.Sure it's all great 4 us fans but the GA will grow tired of them.Hopefully that's not the case though.

Deleted my last comment because I spoke too soon before edits came up...haha sorry about that. It'd be insane to see that many movies in a year. I agree with @MrMartinMarvel. Over-saturation would be horrible and I could see it leading to a downfall.

They should release three films in 2017, giving 6 solo films. That allows for 3 sequels (which are gonna happen anyway) and 3 new franchises. It's the only way we're gonna see Ms Marvel or Black Panther before Avengers 3.

Who is saying this?

Regardless, the most important line for me is this

" We’d have to move to three a year, but that would have to be a natural move if it were to occur. We’d have a [script] draft, we’d have a filmmaker, we’d have a character the audience wants to see."

Don't see it happening. But if it does, it'll be to expand the MCU and further the story. After all, one doesn't make Ant Man and Guardians of The Galaxy to cash in a billion dollars.

Too excessive. Keep it at two or at the very most three. Audience will go tired of it. Shit, I would grow tired of it.
ProfessorX
ProfessorX - 3/18/2014, 3:03 PM
Why will the audience grow tired? If the stories are compelling then people will pay to see them. If they're not, then there's no point making the movies anyway.

@MrReese, Marvel are very very aware of superhero fatigue, which is why they're doing such a good job of diversifying their movies. Cap 2 looks like an entirely different genre to Thor 2 for example. Conspiracy film vs. sci-fi fantasy. If they keep it up, no one's gonna stop watching Marvel films. Ant-man is gonna be a heist movie, GotG is a space opera. They're doing everything they can to keep it fresh, and I think its working.

I think it's much more a problem for the likes of Superman, Spiderman, Batman and X-Men, because they feel a lot more like by-the-numbers superhero movies.

I love brownies, but I will not eat 200 of them and STILL want more. To much of a good thing can blow so much ass. If Marvel does this, they're going to loose the traction they had at first. We'll get to the point where there are 20 people in a theater for Marvel. They need to slow their asses down.

Maestro - 3/18/2014, 3:06 PM
Think about it though. Last year we got a thor sequel and an Iron Man sequel. This year we're getting guardians and Cap. They've been able to consistently push two movies a year, because they started with only 3 trilogies. If they introduce ant man, black panther and strange, and plan to do trilogies with them, I don't think they would be able to go without making 3 or 4 films a year.

Def need to do three a year. I think Thor2 was a test for them. They'll release one in early summer, one in late summer, and the third in November. I think having cap release in early April is also another test. Just to see how box office results are

Sounds nice, but over saturation and quality of films decreasing could come into play. I'm fine with 2 a year and Netflix for now.
Pasto
Pasto - 3/18/2014, 3:10 PM
If Marvel does this, there is a 95% chance this could blow up in their face. Soon people are going to resist seeing their films because their going to be chocked to death by CBMs.
DaVinci31
DaVinci31 - 3/18/2014, 3:10 PM
I'd say have two on-going franchises and one origin story per year.

Not a fan of the whole Netflix/TV stuff they have planned, so I wouldn't be interested in this idea at all.

Thinking of all these possibilities of how many CBM's we can get seems awesome now. But once they reach those maximum achievements, it's going to turn into "what now"? We've seen this we've seen that, it will become boring.

Iron Man 6: The New Beginning is being released to? Ok, let's ease up now. Spider-Man: Rhino's Revenge is coming out to? God dammit, let me see the first 2 films first. WHAT? THERE IS GOING TO BE AN ANT-MAN: 5 FILM??? YOU'RE KILLING ME!!! STOP!"

Then, people will eventually give up on CBMs as a whole.
