Our passion at CBM may be movies about comic books, but that passion ultimately stems from our love of the heroic ideal and of the concept of humans with extraordinary abilities. The best, truest superheroes are the ones who put the lives of others before their own and who do so without the expectation of fame or compensation.

As such, I felt compelled to bring you this true story of a real superhero, complete with danger, feats of superhuman strength, and the selflessness that only a true hero possesses!

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Forget Smallville: A daring rescue at the scene of a West Brighton accident last night suggests the Man of Steel lives somewhere on Staten Island.

Homeward-bound Anthony Aceto, 37, of Grasmere, said he turned onto Bard Avenue from Clove Road and was confronted by the sight of a capsized minivan, with a woman trapped inside.

And he saw something else: A man prying open the sunroof with his bare hands to get the woman to safety.

"When I pulled up, it looked like an action movie and there was a superhero on top of the car trying to get the lady out," said Aceto.

"(She) was screaming and she was hysterical," he said. "The guy saved the lady. He pried open the sunroof and got her out of there."

Aceto said the Good Samaritan was actually bending the steering wheel so the woman could free her legs.

"He really put himself at risk, because there was sparks and gasoline all over the place. It was really, really crazy," he said. Aceto said the woman seemed fine but was taken to the hospital, likely as a precaution.

He described the rescuer as in his late 30s: "He was a good-looking Irish guy."

Aceto said he talked briefly with the man, who told him he lives on the Island and is an ironworker. And like any good superhero, the man split, without taking his richly deserved bow. If the Good Samaritan is reading this, he should give us a call and reveal his identity.

Wherever you are Good Samaritan, we here at CBM salute you!

Aw tea@! Ya gotta ruin it for me every time!
I can't take you anywhere! I see you been
mugged before! I never had the pleasure! lol

But I for one really like this story Brent!

I happen to know a couple of NY Irish Iron-workers!
They're big guys and man they are animals!
Ya get immensely strong pushing big steel
eye-beams around on huge cables to fit them together!
I seen them do fits of strength that would make
CONAN THE BARBARIAN proud! lol

Leee@ I say we call this guy the "BRIGHTON BEAM" 'cause
he's as strong as a steel eye-beam of a girder!!!! lol

@RedSkullGeezer: I absolutely salute our soldiers, both those currently serving and our veterans. My father is a veteran of the Vietnam war and my grandpa served in WWII.

This story is exceptional because this guy isn't a policeman, fireman or soldier. Those are all noble professions, but they get paid to do what they do and they know the risks going into it. This Good Samaritan is just a guy who saw someone in need and put his life on the line without sticking around for congratulations. It's truly amazing! If there were more guys like him, we would be living in a much better world.

Tea@ that's wrong on so many levels! lol

That guy's so nekkid and cold he's turnin' blue!
Call him BLUE STEEL!

I for one really like this story and I love how this guy
just vanished into the shadows, like every good hero should!

I guess his name should be--STEEL SHADOW!!!
DDD
DDD - 1/30/2010, 5:55 AM
Tea@ That's one problem now days! If you save someone and
you somehow injure them in the process they sometimes end
up suing you or if ya help sometimes the police hassle ya
and tell you that you shoulda waited for the Firemen
and the cops!

Its better to just help and disappear! I've actually done
that myself!

The stories we read in comic books of super heroes inspires many. It has inspired me to do the job I do as well, but it's real acts of heroism like this gentleman that keep me pushing forward and believing in a better tomorrow. If he reads this... good job, Man of Steel.

Didn't really describe him much, maybe the guy who saw it is protecting the do gooder. I've always thought there has to be someone out there with superpowers, after all lets think about it genetics get messed up all the time so that doesn't rule out having someone born with extra strength.
