THE SUICIDE SQUAD Star Margot Robbie Transforms Into BARBIE For First Look At Upcoming Movie

Following their CinemaCon presentation yesterday evening, Warner Bros. has shared a fun first look at Margot Robbie's (Birds of Prey) transformation into the lead character in Mattel's Barbie movie...

We've seen lots of animated Barbie movies over the years (the iconic doll even played a role in the Toy Story franchise), but a live-action project from Warner Bros. and Mattel has been in the works for some time now. After initially eyeing Amy Schumer to play the title character, the studio has finally revealed a first look at Margot Robbie's (The Suicide Squad) take on one of the world's most iconic toys.

Shared via Toonado.com along with the news that Barbie will arrive in theaters on July 21, 2023, this image doesn't reveal much, but Robbie - best known for playing Harley Quinn - clearly looks the part.

Greta Gerwig (Little Women) is directing the movie and co-wrote the project with her husband Noah Baumbach. Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049) has been cast as Ken, while Will Ferrell (Anchorman) recently signed up to play the CEO of a toy company (widely believed to be a spin on Mattel).

Rounding out the impressive ensemble are names like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Ariana Greenblat, and America Ferrera.

We're definitely intrigued to see where this one goes. No plot details have been revealed, but Gerwig will likely put a unique spin on Barbie and the world she inhabits. The expectation is that it will be a comedy, but with that cast, it could just as easily head down the action route! Now this first look has been shared, we're hopeful that a trailer won't be too far behind.

So Barbie news gets top billing on CBM but other articles have been routed to other sites??? This makes zero sense. Keep all the articles on THIS site.

I'm a fan of ALL movie new on here, btw.

@ThorArms - I guess throwing all news on one website is gonna make it too mich article. Could easily solve that bu using filters though (like using the tags)

@bkmeijer1 - or accounts that work for all the sister sites, then again it took 15 years for an edit button and a dislike lol

@bobevanz - I think the account works across all sister sites now, and have so for a while.

The edit button did come very late though, but the dislike button shouldn't have come at all

Remember when Amy Schumer was the first one cast as Barbie (to much criticism)…? and now we’re here.

@xfactor - I’m at work so don’t have much time to search, but this was from some years ago when the Barbie film was first announced.

"Transforms"😐

That's Margot on a Tuesday when she just woke up💁.

This movie is gonna be a beautiful woman telling us that it's what on the inside that counts🥲........
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/27/2022, 6:15 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - would be interesting if the movie would actually be about the world only seeing Barbie for her beauty, and she is gonna end drinking and doing drugs because of it. Themes like societal pressure and performace pressure is something they can do with this movie.

But yeah, it's probably gonna be a gorgeous woman telling us beauty is on the inside

This might be the weirdest sell I've seen on this site. Barbie? To the CBM audience, Barbie??

Having said that, Margot Robbie might be enough to get us in the seats so what do I know.

Let’s just hope the movie not only talks about the health problems of anorexia and bulimia but also obesity.

I think it’s a little strange for obese women who are dying in their 40s-50s telling others what’s “healthy”.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/27/2022, 6:35 PM
@HulkisHoly - thats annoys the shit out of me. Out of personal experience I've discovered being healthy (as in not fat) is easy and cheap.

Unless there is an actual underlying reason , so-called plus size people are just trying to come up with an excuse for being too lazy to do something about it.

But yeah, the movie is the perfect place for some societal commentary.
HulkisHoly
HulkisHoly - 4/27/2022, 8:35 PM
@bkmeijer1 -

It could just be a fun time at the movies but you know it’ll have social commentary since the feminists deemed Barbie the greatest tool of the patriarchy since the 90s.
SerKurtWagner
SerKurtWagner - 4/27/2022, 10:24 PM
@HulkisHoly - Do you have any examples of heavier women raising awareness for health issues and dying young? Or are you just continuing to peddle in the stereotypical fat=unhealthy=die young narrative?

Simplistic takes like that pushing a focus on weight is exactly why we have eating disorder epidemics.
