What if the 2012 Superhero Movie you're anticipated for doesn't take the big win?

Knowing how many of you are battling it out on whether TDKR or The Avengers will be on top, there's that little thought about how those fanboys/fangirls would react to the actuality of the situation.

You got The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, and even Ghost Rider : Spirit Of Vengeance. I don't think there's one person that doesn't give a damn about at least one of these films. Which proves things to be highly eventful for 2012, adding up to more anticipation. But even if you're excited for one of these films, there's always that one person who isn't.

They list their speculation, and assumption from prior movie knowledge upon the director's past movies. Just to backup their opinions and to conclude their judgement. The basic thing to do, yeah. But even if these filmmakers have a bad reputation (usually anyway), they're always offered that certain chance of a greatly potential movie with positive feedback. That's the thing about Hollywood nowadays, the unpredictability of where these movies will end up. Most of all, the directors.

Having said that, if the Ghost Rider sequel becomes the most successful CBM next year--- people are going to be blown away out of proportion. Not saying that it will, since there's a huge possibility it won't but that's my whole point. The benefit of a doubt can prove to be no more than a shocker in the end. No matter how much you may like the comic, the character, the actor, the director... the possibilities are endless.

So I want to know... if you're a Nolanite and TDKR doesn't live up to your usual Nolan expectations, would you come to terms with it? The same for Marvel Fanboys, who's had a hell of a tussle with Nolanites. Would you come to accept that even if The Avengers has such potential to overcome every other CBM and still lose to the wingless Batwing, would you call it troops? There's even those that think the Spider-Man reboot will top them all off. Think about the stuff I said, and comment how you'd react if your movie lost the battle.

I'm personally most excited for The Amazing Spider-Man, but if it ends up being rubish, I still have two amazing (heh) Spider-Man movies. If The Avengers sucks, I have four great MCU films. If The Dark Knight Rises disappoints, I have two mind-blowing Batman films (I never liked the old ones).
It's not the end of the world.

I think Avengers will be the movie to beat, mainly because you have something that has never been done before, the closest thing that's been done is the Expendables.

TDKR will come in a close second, but I don't think it will beat Avengers.

Spiderman I think will be number 1 for a week or two, but it won't be as big as Sony hopes.

Ghost Rider I don't even think is going to come in number 1 for the week.

I personally hope that all four of these movies blow us all away. I want Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, to prove that a not-so-great first movie can be improved upon in a sequel. I want the Avengers to be everything and more, that we all hope and believe it will be. The Dark Knight Rises, imo, has the potential to break the trilogy curse. We've got to trust Nolan, and hope that he'll bring us an epic ending to his amazing story that he started with Batman Begins. The Amazing Spider-Man, well, I'm not sure about. Part of me thinks that the name alone will be the reason for it's financial success. On the other hand, I can't help but believe that the scenes with Spidey and Lizard are going to surprise us and be fantastic. Let's hope that all four films bring in a lot of money and even more sequels. Except for Batman. Still want our Batman Beyond movie. Cheers!

JediJoker - Exactly, man... Well said.
If the film that I'm personally looking forward to the most doesn't do as well at the box office as others, I quite honestly couldn't give a flying f.uck. It's really not important. If only 10 people went to see "Film A" and absolutely loved it, and 1,000,000 people went to see "Film B" and absolutely hated it, how is that a true measure of success? It all seems a bit juvenile to me, I'm afraid...

As long as all of them meet my expectations in entertainment ((TDKR will easily meet it since I'm not expecting all that much)) and make at least their budget......I'll be okay.

From a business perspective the Batman and Spiderman franchises always sell like crazy despite the content. Batman Forever grossed something near $330 million worldwide. Batman and Robin made something like $230 million world wide. Avengers, while it may have a cartoon series, is essentially a new franchise as far as movie audiences are concerned. While it does have a tremendous amount of hype I seriously doubt it will overcome the Batman or Spiderman franchises.

Now as far as personal excitement goes I'm pretty excited for the Avengers and I do hope Marvel makes their money back. I am a fan of most of Joss Whedon's work as well. The movie does have a tremendous amount of hype around it but I question whether that hype alone will be enough. I'm also looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises as I do love most of Nolan's work.

From another business angle Spiderman and The Avengers have the potential to reach children as well as adults. While I'm sure children will go see The Dark Knight Rises, the simple fact is Nolan's films are very dark and gritty. Batman does have toy lines and such so there's a question of parental awareness around the the movie.

Spiderman probably has the most potential to bring in money in the box office since parents will automatically assume its safe for kids and its an established popular franchise.

I suspect that Batman and Avengers will be top dog. Spider-Man is just regurgitating the previous films with a slightly different spin to make it 'original'. Ghost Rider might be great, it might even be amazing - but it will still lose to Batman and Avengers because of brand awareness. Still, if it does half as good as them that will be a win. I'm rooting for it.

Really, as comicbookmovie fans, we should hope for them ALL to be successful. Keep comic book movies going strong, and that is a win for us all.
