Composer Alan Silvestri (Captain America: The First Avenger) had a successful year in 2012, having scored the mega-blockbuster Marvel's The Avengers and Robert Zemeckis' Flight. Now, he is adding another comic book movie to his resume (no word on if he is returning for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, however). According to Film Music Reporter, Silvestri has been hired to score Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate's upcoming action sequel Red 2. Christophe Beck worked on the score for the first film, which was released in 2010. Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is directing the action comedy. RED 2 stars Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Lee Byung-hun, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. The film is set to hit theaters July 19th.

Gonna be honest here... The Avengers score was not great and could have been much better. It was not memorable or emotional impacting to me.

I love the Avengers score, most definitely one of the most comic book sounding compared to others.

The avengers score was terrible! Only blind fan boys would try and defend it.....belonged in an infomercial selling steak knives.

I enjoyed his Avengers score. It wasn't terribly original, but I LOVE certain tracks (like the main theme).

Sorry. I liked the Avengers score. I liked the Captain America score too. I've been a fan of Silvestri since Predator and Back to the Future (I also liked his score for Judge Dredd). That's my personal choice though. If you don't like it, well go wear some underwear.

Silvestri can cover every family of instruments, he can cover all styles of music, he can create the classic sounds of every era, as well as keep up with fresh sounds. The guy is a jack of all trades

Zimmer plays the same minor scales that have been done over and over since Psycho in most of his pieces. Especially in the batman movies. It fits but its very repetitive and not very original.

@Thorific is acting like the Herr-Fuhrer while sun baking thus even clouding his own judgement and mind. lol
Silvestri's score on Avengers is definitely not his best but his music on that film serve its purpose well and deliver where it is needed. Look out and listen for his latest music on The Croods maybe it could knock some senses into you.

unless you present your claim to what should be the bar of what is to be considered a good or great composer and explaining them with depth and authorization convincingly then you may have just earned yourself the right to critique the composer based on it's merit if not. seriously stfu and move on..
