Red Director Robert Schwentke To Helm R.I.P.D?

Universal are planning in shooting the movie next Summer, when star Ryan Reynolds, has the time out of his busy schedule. However, the studio are apparently hoping to find a director a lot sooner in order to get started on pre-production. Last week, it was reported that McG (Terminator Salvation) was going to helm the project but he then declined.

Now, according to 24 Frames, director Robert Schwentke has met with the studio and is now the front runner for the job. Schwentke's next project is of course another comic book adaptation in the form of Red starring Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren among others. According to the site, "The buzz surrounding that project — following the revelation of a crazy fun trailer — has reportedly helped his chances at Universal."

Here is the synopsis for the Dark Horse series:

"Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department — the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat...reporting to one boss.” Yep — THAT boss. Nick Cruz was murdered by an unknown assailent, at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he’s traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately his search will take him to Hell and back — literally!"

Along with how producer Neal Moritz recently described the upcoming adaptation:

"It’s about two cops, one recently dead and a gunslinger who’s been dead for hundreds of years who work on the Rest in Peace department – which is the police department of the dead. And they basically...it takes place on a normal day and it’s about trying to keep the dead quiet."

I love this comic book...

But seriously [frick] HOLLYWOOD...

I really wanna see this but not with REYNOLDS in it, he should stick to all the comic book movies he already has, CHRIS EVANS too! Its like a race with them, and HOLLYWOOD just cares who will bring in the more $$$$$$!!!!!?

Flavor of the month strikes again! : (

Boo HOLLYWOOD... theres thousands of good actors out there, think beyond the HOLLYWOOD little box! : (

Give it 4 years and they'll reboot this movie with EVANS ffs! : P

P.s. Also, leave all the reboots, remakes and 3D movies alone now, its all gonna crash an burn once Joe Public gets bored!

Using the same actors again and again and again is the same thing too!

I've never heard of this series either but the whole idea sounds brilliant! As for Ryan Reynolds' being in it? I honestly dont care. He's a good actor and it's not as if he's playing three characters from the same company! They're all very different characters and I'm just grateful to have decent actors like him in these movies! For example, Mark Strong in Kick-Ass and Green Lantern or Chris Evans in...well...everything, lol! :D

Red is going to be awesome. The trailer is sick!

LEE777 @ I totally agree about the same actors in every single movie dude. Hollywood is casting movies like it's the 1940's. I've liked Reynold's in just about everything (especially Waiting), but enough is enough!

@Lansdowne5: I Still think McG is a QUACK as a Director and that the two of you should burn in hell together.
