Adam Wingard Says GODZILLA VS. KONG Will Have A Clear "Winner"; Discusses Visiting Set of GODZILLA Sequel

The aspect that people are perhaps most excited for when it comes to Godzilla vs. Kong is finding out which of the two gargantuan beasts will come out on top in the aftermath of their inevitable confrontation. Whilst promoting his newest film Death Note, director Adam Wingard (The Guest) revealed that his film will have a definite winner as opposed to the original King Kong vs. Godzilla film from 1962.

“I do want there to be a winner. The original film was very fun, but you feel a little let down that the movie doesn’t take a definitive stance. People are still debating now who won in that original movie, you know. So, I do want people to walk away from this film feeling like, 'Okay, there is a winner'.”

Wingard also discussed his visit to the set of the Michael Dougherty (Krampus) directed Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is currently shooting in Atlanta.

“It was really cool. Part of me just wanted to go there and see what a $200 million — or whatever it’s costing — movie looked like. And I was kind of relieved to see that, at a certain point, movies can only get so big. That’s kind of what I got from it. It was really educational, just from that perspective. Mike was really nice. I’d never met him before. I walked up to him on set and he was taking pictures of one of the props or something, and he was laughing with somebody, and I was like, ‘Oh, this was really encouraging, to see that you’re smiling and looking happy!’ Because he was halfway through that production, so he could have been in horrible shape.”

Are you excited for Godzilla vs. Kong? Which monster are you rooting for and which one do you think will come out on top? Sound off down below!

@Kurne -

A winner could not happen without alienating most the fanbase - similar to why most battles between popular characters do not end with a clear winner.

In this case, the majority of the fanbase want Godzilla to win - yet those involved with Godzilla Vs Kong clearly desire Kong to win, given the remarks about how they intend to buff Kong before the movie occurs (increasing size, strength, etc...)

There will be a winner, and it's me in the theater watching this in three years.

So is this supposed to be the third film after Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island? I didn't realize this even had a director yet.

Release date of May 22, 2020.

@MUTO123 - OK thank you, I was a bit confused. I feel like not much has been said about Godzilla 2 and this film, granted they are still a couple years away.

Kong will win because he's the underdog- too obvious otherwise.

Well it comes out after Godzilla's 2nd solo movie so I guess Kong will win so he can get a 2nd solo movie too?

@chewie -

Godzilla is a weak film focusing on characters that will likely not return in future movies with a basic storyline for them with the focus being on them. The few Godzilla scenes in the movie are 'ok' but feel slow paced.

@Scarilian - ...guess I'll pass then haha. I don't wanna see a Godzilla movie for only a few scenes of Godzilla. At least skull island had other crazy stuff like the spiders and the lizard thingies.
