Code 8 first came to our attention in 2016 as a short film starring
The Flash's Robbie Amell and the voice of
Arrow star Stephen Amell. Following an overwhelmingly positive response from fans, it took no time at all for the crowdfunding page set up to finance the film to massively exceed its target. Now, the feature length version we were promised comes our way on December 13th.
Directed by Jeff Chan from a script by Chris Paré, the movie takes place in a world where 4% of people are born with supernatural abilities. However, rather than becoming superheroes, these "specials" are forced to live in poverty and often turn to crime as a way of making ends meet.
That's where Connor Reed (Robbie Amell) comes in, and in order to help pay for his mother's health treatment, he's lured into the world of a lucrative criminal called Garrett (Stephen Amell).
In this new trailer for
Code 8, we get to see that meeting along with what happens next. It looks like the movie will deliver a unique take on "superheroes" and with plenty of amazing looking action scenes, it promises to be a must-see when it arrives in theaters and On Demand this Winter.
Code 8 is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with varying supernatural abilities, but instead of being billionaires or superheroes, they face discrimination and live in poverty, often resorting to crime. Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), a power-enabled young man, is struggling to pay for his ailing mother’s (Kari Matchett) health treatment. Fighting to earn enough money as a day laborer, Connor is lured into a lucrative criminal world by Garrett (Stephen Amell) who works for Lincoln City’s reigning drug lord, Marcus Sutcliffe (Greg Bryk). Garrett helps Connor sharpen his powers in order to execute a series of crimes on behalf of Sutcliffe, while a militarized police unit, led by Agent Park (Sung Kang) and Agent Davis (Aaron Abrams), hunts them down.
