Peter Jackson has made quite a name for himself thanks to his impressive work on
The Lord of the Rings and
The Hobbit film franchises, but now the writer/director is looking to take us on his next epic new saga:
Mortal Engines.
Adapted from the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve,
Mortal Engines is set thousands of years in the future after civilization has been destroyed, forcing humans to roam the Earth in gigantic moving cities that battle each other for survival. That's just the backdrop though, as the film seemingly centers on two unlikely heroes that come together in an attempt to change the course of the future.
The first teaser trailer only gives us a glimpse into this fascinating/terrifying future and what breathtaking set pieces Jackson has created for us in the upcoming
Mortal Engines.
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
Mortal Engines rolls into theaters December 14, 2018.
