With
Game of Thrones wrapping up this year, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are making the leap from the Seven Kingdoms to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Now, a new report claims that the movie will start shooting as soon as this Fall.
That was to be expected as Disney won't want to leave the
Star Wars franchise out of theaters for too long after
Episode IX wraps up the Skywalker Saga. However, what's really interesting is the fact that Lucasfilm and the directors are looking to the
Knights of the Old Republic video game for inspiration.
The movie (which may be the first in a new trilogy) will reportedly take place in the Old Republic as
"Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more Game of Thrones style audience."
This would be a smart move on the studio's part as it means we get to visit a whole new era with characters we haven't met before (it would feel incredibly forced if one of them was a "Kenobi" or "Skywalker," that's for sure). It's possible that more details on the project will be revealed at Star Wars Celebration but
Episode IX is expected to be the focus there.
