Lucasfilm Was Reportedly Developing A STAR WARS Spinoff Set In The Mos Eisley Spacesport

Mos Eisley: A Star Wars Story? That may sound ridiculous but a new report reveals that Lucasfilm was indeed moving forward on a spinoff putting the focus on the Mos Eisley spaceport! Read on for details...

Earlier this week, we learned that Lucasfilm had decided to shelve every single upcoming Star Wars spinoff movie, including Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Since then, the studio has denied reports that it will only focus on those planned trilogies and the franchise's future remains a mystery as a result (more on that can be found here). However, another scrapped spinoff may have now been revealed.

According to the reliable folks over at Making Star Wars, Lucasfilm set aside space at Pinewood for a number of upcoming movies, including one which would have essentially been Mos Eisley: A Star Wars Story! That's not the official title, of course, but it was set to be the basic premise and the site reveals that the spotlight would have been placed on the spaceport Luke Skywalker visited in A New Hope.

It's also noted that Lucasfilm deciding not to move forward on this one is what led to them cancelling that studio space, something which could have led to Collider mistakenly posting a report claiming that all of these movies had been scrapped. Time will tell on that front but it's hard to imagine what the studio was thinking when they decided that a story about Mos Eisley would be an interesting idea.

A Star Wars anthology movie? Sounds kinda cool. Could have different directors for each story. Use it as a secret audition lol

Could be cool if it was like some kinda gangster movie with western influences set in the space port. Rare that a Sci-fi film set anywhere other than Earth is solely set on one planet.

But then a Cheers style sitcom set entirely in the Cantina would also be hilariously stupid

@AC1 - My first thought is Greedo replacing Norm entering the bar.

they realized that this would be the obiwan movie a second time, except without obiwan.

Star Wars, for me anyways, felt like a complete story and don't need all these spinoff from that era.

If I were them, create something new forget the Empire or First Order.

I would set it 1000 years later with a new conflict, that represents contemporary themes and doesn't rely on old characters.

@Knightrider - They are already creating two different new movie series featuring new characters in new parts of the galaxy.

@Knightrider - while I agree with you, the general audience member would be scratching his head trying to figure out where exactly this is in the timeline, which is why certain OT characters keep popping up in young and old ages, so people can figure where it goes in the timeline. That's really the big reason for these OT cameos.

@TheUnworthyThor - True, and obviously we don't know what these will entail in terms of timeline and setting, but my feeling is they won't stray too far away from this current universe.
I just want it to breakaway from what has come before and repeating stories we've seen before.

@Timerider84 - Yeah, I would tend to agree. This maybe could be something an opening text crawl could clarify or have one character like Luke who could be there in spirit firm.
As I mentioned in comment above, I just have a feeling it is time to move on and really breakaway, but I understanf others will disagree.

That does make sense that cancelling this could be mistaken for postponing other spin-offs if you you didn’t even know this one was getting made. And this does seem like a likely movie to get shelved if audiences weren’t that interested in Han Solo.

This would have been a weird movie to see get made especially when you could see plent of it in a Boba Fett movie or a Lando movie or a second Solo movie but anything can be good obviously. That being said though this definitely sounds like something that would be more interesting to see as a movie, mini-series or series on a streaming platform.

Quick question: did they actually cut off Simone Missick's arm? Because this is some of the most convincing amputee acting I think I've ever seen.

(Also, blah blah Star Wars IG-88 is overrated, Corran Horn and Mirax Terrik OTP blah blah.)

Also I'm going to need that Daughters of the Dragon series, Netflix. This chemistry is electric.

(Oh, uh... something something Mandalorian armor.)

What they NEED is a Star Wars film that takes place on [insert TLJ location] that revolves around the character of [insert new character from TLJ].

Hahaha, I dare someone to make the inserts and come up with something that actually sounds good. I dare you.

@ElCidJedi - What they NEED is a Star Wars film that takes place on Crait that revolves around the vulptex.

@GreedoSarducci - Man, that also sounds good.

My friend said a movie set on Crait, based on the alliance’s last stand there, revealing what happened and why it was abandoned. The character would be the code breaker that they never found on Canto Bight. I agree, the one cool, new, character from TLJ is the one they actually didn't introduce and taint.
