Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi featured plenty of scenes with Mark Hamill’s beloved Luke Skywalker. However, some of these moments have been a source of division among Star Wars and Luke Skywalker fans. But, while speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Mark Hamill himself has revealed some details on two moments that are arguably loved by both The Last Jedi’s critics and supporters alike, scenes which the actor himself influenced.

Both of these moments occur during the film’s final battle on Crait, and the first involves Luke’s final interaction with his sister Leia. Hamill explains to ET that the decision to give Carrie Fisher’s Leia a kiss on the forehead wasn’t a decision on his part, instead it was “spontaneous” and an act that “just happened.” Fortunately, as one would imagine, the cast and crew saw this moment and asked for a second take of this interaction between the siblings. While this scene was more than likely a heartfelt moment for fans, Hamill also revealed that, following the passing of Carrie Fisher, this became a scene he can’t watch.

Of course, such a heartfelt and personal moment was the only scene Hamill contributed to, as the actor reveals he also came up with the idea to have Luke acknowledge C3-PO:

“Initially, I didn't acknowledge Threepio, I walked right past him. I said, 'Rian, look it, after all those years of service, even though we haven't been in contact in recent years, Threepio was the closest to a sidekick I had. Harrison had Chewie and I had Artoo and Threepio, but [Rian's] so accommodating and so collaborative. He said, 'Oh, absolutely, you should go over there.' We didn't really have time to script anything, just to acknowledge him, and that's what I did.”

Seeing how well these brief moments worked in The Last Jedi, it’s hard for one to imagine their respective scenes without them. Thankfully, however, the Luke Skywalker actor improvised these moments, so we don’t have to imagine.

So Luke was supposed to ignore C3-PO, Leia did ignore Chewie...

@Batman1991 - Too bad Leia didn't seem to give two shits when her friggin planet was blown up.

Too bad Luke didn't seem to give a damn when his aunt and uncle were burnt alive.

Luke cared more about Solo's death than either of the two situations above.

The Last Jedi was a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.

Hammil should have been script editor from the start. A disaster could have been avoided.

@GeneralZod - I wish they kept Lucas (or atleast his script) for consulting. Hamill as a script editor would have been great too. I have the feeling no one knows star wars better than anyone else on disneys payroll

I’m willing to bet Rian just forgot about Threepio.

While Luke has been close to Threepio, Threepio has probably been closer to Leia than anyone which is what Rian was going at.

The closest of the OT Luke had was R2 & Rian got that reunion down perfectly. Even in the expanded stuff, when Luke would go on adventures he’d bring R2 with him.

My God! Rian is such an utter hack. Those moments that Hamill suggested were some of the only genuine moments in the film. I think Rian actually might be a sociopath or emotionally under developed. That might be why he felt the need to cut away every time something emotional happened. He's such an amateur.

By and large, the people at Lucas Film unacknowledged and ignored everything that made the OT great. This was a mish-mash product hated all over the world.

WHAT A MISSED OPPORTUNITY!

I kinda dislike the fact that Rian didnt come up with these moments. Really makes me think he really doesnt understand the character of luke and doesnt wanna admit it. If Im correct, JJ did say that Leia ignoring Chewie was a mistake
